looking at a new bike should i get the 09 or 11

hello everyone this my first post im looking at buying a wr250r and only one dealer has 1 and its a 2009 and they are asking 6100 for it. I know i can get them to lower the price but how much i have pretty much no knowledge on buying bikes what would be a good price for that bike or should i just pony up and get the 2011 model have there been any changes in the bike sense then?? Practically speaking, no changes from 2008-2011 other than cosmetics. :)

i live in maryland not sure if location has a big roll in the price or not i was thinking about offering like 5100 but its quite a long ride out there and i really dont want to wast my time lol :)

When I was looking for mine I looked local here in PA. Unfortunately nobody wanted to deal, lotsa places wanted 5 grand for leftover 2008's and assembly on top of that. Six grand plus (sticker) was the norm for 2009's and 2010's.

LIke folks have said there have been no major mechanical changes from 2008-2011 . There is a fellow who maintains a cross reference of parts numbers throughout the years that tells this pretty clearly.... I dont' have the linky here on this computer.

The only changes are, of course "Bold New Graphics".

Where are you in Maryland, and which dealer(s)? I didn't find the dealers here all that willing to give fantastic deals on these bikes, even if they've been sitting on the floor for a while, but I'd rather have an easy transaction vs fighting for hours or driving all over hell's creation to save a $200 so that I can say I got a 'deal'.

I bought my current one from Fredericktown Yamaha in Frederick, great people that I'd love to do business with again.

I bought my first one from Cycle World in Glen Burnie when they weren't just a Honda/used bike store, let's just say I wouldn't cry if they went out of business.

Just buy the '11, fresh rubber and plastics, and the price will be forgotten after you start adding after market stuff to dial it into the bike you like. Count on spending at least 2 g's on more stuff.

There is a volume dealer in Ohio that could save you $800+ if you wanna drive that far.

Out The Door prices are not comparable unless all live in the same country and state/province/whatever.

Best way to compare: bike cost + any freight & prep + all dealer fees.

NO taxes and registrations fees!! Those vary a lot by location...

We get gouged on WR250 MSRP by Yamaha in Canada vs US.
Yamaha 2009 WR250X MSRP: USA was $6,150, Canada was $8,500. (I paid $5,995 for a new leftover 2009 in 2010.)

Compare that with Triumph pricing.
2009 675 Street triple R MSRP: USA was $9,500, Canada was $10,500.
MASSIVE fail for Yamaha pricing in Canada!

I bought my 08 this Feb in excellent condtion with 870 miles from a dealer for $3,700 out the door. It still looked 95% new. There were a few small scratches on the swing arm.


Check out Honda East in Toledo Oh. Pretty good deals on new ones too!

I just bought an '08 with hand guards, skid plate and only 299 miles on it for $4100 out the door.
The deals are out there, you just have to look for them. $6,100 seems like a lot to me.

why not buy used? Let someone else take the hit on the depreciation. If you have to buy a new one, buy the '11, cause the 09 will drop to a $4800 bike as soon as you roll it out the door.

I payed 4200 for an 08 last week with 1900 miles on it. Sounds like a lot for an 08, but it has a full fmf exhaust(PB and Q4), fmf programmer, zeta hand guards with LED signals, LED tail tidy kit, zeta levers, sprocket cover and chain guard, skid plate and 5 brand new 606's(3 fronts/2 rears), 2 helmets, a mesh jacket, gloves, shin guards, tire levers and a chest protector, 12t sprocket and a couple oil filters.

You got a fantastic deal... probably $3k of after-market stuff... like the bike was practically free. amazing. It's like houses in PHX.

What he said.

No reason to buy a dirt bike new if one can get one like new for a good chunk of change off. Two grand or so can buy a whole lot of warranty-like repairs. And it's not like you want it new to keep it from getting dirty.

So far I'm glad I spent $4200 for my 500 mile used '10 than 6 grand for a new one. And it had handguards and a 12t sprocket thrown in to boot.

Many great deals are to be had for used bikes. And buying decent mileage used anything ensures that you won't be a victim of "infant mortality" failures, which are the most common failure in vehicles.

wow, never realized that......

Well thanks for all the responses... I live in new carrollton Maryland I'm having a hard time finding the bike new and I have yet to see a used one there really hard to find in my area for some reason I'm pretty sure I can get that 09 model for about 5400 and I don't have my license yet.... If u live in Maryland and know a place that have them let me know thanks.
