My son and I are in need of advise. He bought a 02 wr250 for a comuter\trail bike in Colorado. It had full service at a local shop. It was doing good in performance for a few months. Replaced a chain due to age of the old one. Now this is what happened....On the way to work one rocky mopuntain moning and after warming it up for 10 minutes (daily) the engine started to ping, ping, ping. He pulled off the road to check it out. Shut down the engine and within minutes tried to start it. It is bound up and will not kick. The oil was full when checked.
We have had some instruction on some possibilities but don't know where to start. We feel that it is going to be a garage repair with out using local mechanics (do it our self). We have friends that are willing to assist too. I am handy and can fix most things but never broke down a engine. Are we looking in the right palce for advise or should we get a mechanic for advise (im sure it will cost us).
I am looking for direction...and remember I will not know what to do.

or at the very least a forum that's about wr250f's - not r's and x's which are altogether different motorcycles.

Maybe somebody at thumpertalk could offer more help.

If your friends are savvy they may have leads as to the problem.

Pings followed by a general failure to do anything shouldn't be followed by additional attempts to restore operation. That usually can end up with somethig worse.

Sounds like you may have lost the top end. Timing chain, something worse perhaps.

Get some help and maybe you can salvage something left of the situation.

Unfortunately we can't help you much more than the advise you've received already.
