Serial Number Empty
PostSubject: Serial Number   Serial Number EmptyFri Nov 09, 2012 11:23 pm

I recently purchased a new 2012 WR250R. I notice the serial number had a CA located about 1/2 through the digits. I'm located in Indiana so I was curious if I was sold a California edition somehow. Would anyone have any idea if the CA indicates a California edition?
This is an important detail. I attempted to Google for this info, but had no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the C was at the 10th digit, then no.

The 10th digit of the VIN is the one that tells what model year the motorcycle (or car, for that matter) is, and in this case, the letter C = 2012.
This is a USA Federal law that vehicles sold here have to comply with as far as I know.

If memory serves, it's the 4th through 8th digits in a Yamaha motorcycle VIN that will tell whether or not it's a California model, and you'll need some reference info to decode that.
It may even be in your Owner's Manual.
It's certainly floating around somewhere within the doors of your local Yamaha dealer - someone just needs to find it.

The easy way to ID a California model WR-250R:
Smog canister in front of engine crankcase?
