Hey Everyone - My name is Mike and I live in Sacramento, CA. I just picked a 2009 WR250X with less than 3k miles on it. wink I havent really had a chance to bwraaap around on it yet but since my last dual sport was a DR650 I can already tell I'll have a ball with this bike. I also ride a 2004 KTM 950 Adv which I use for long rides and easy dirt. The WR is for the trails, kart tracks and general hooliganism! I'll get the dirt wheels soon so I can do the gnarly stuff but in the meantime Im loving the SM wheels. I might put some Shinko 244s on it until I get the dirt wheels. I am defintiely changing the gearing. Going to a 12T in the front and probably a 43-45T in the back. Any recommendations on that front? I dont want it too tall for dirt but too short for freeway. I ride all over the Sierras but mostly the Foresthill and Georgetown divides. I love the north coast as well and ride out there frequently.

Anywho, cheers mates and I'm happy to join the ranks of WR250 riders! bannana

Awesome! Thanks! bow Although I am pretty sure the stock gearing for the WR250X is 13/42. It is 13/43 for the WR250R.

Waiting for my new chain to try out my 13-47 setup @ 3.62 final drive. Gonna also swap back to my 12t front @ 3.92 and see if I can climb walls. amazon

You should check out BigDogAdventures.com, WR250R Build-up, and read Mark's reasoning for going 14/50. It can be found here:

Whoa thats some crazy gearing. I don't think I believe him on the 12T sprocket issue though. I am keeping the stock chain on there since it is in perfect condition with less than 3k on it so I am working within those boundaries. I picked up some goodies after work yesterday. A 12T sprocket, No Toil hi-flo filter, and some semi-synthetic to change the oil. Changed the oil last night and am gonna put the rest of the bits on today. Anything I should remove right off the bat? Spark arrestor, part of the airbox? What is this flapper I keep hearing about.

Lol. Sorry for all the questions but knowledge is power! dutch
