Radiator Fan

Ouch...... don't break your radiator fan.

As far as i can tell, you can't buy the fan seperately. You need to buy the whole oem fan assembly which is $133 US.

Hopefully tomorrow when all the dealers and shops are open again, i can find out for sure.


Word of advice.. buy a radiator guard!!!

been there. done that. I had to get a new assembly after I got so much mud jammed up in there that the fan blade got jammed and the motor kept trying to spin until it ate the inside out of the plastic fan. That's about what I paid. Only time I've ever seen my temp light though.

that's exactly what it did to my fan.

If you haven't installed your new stock fan, here's something that could save you some cash.....

Early on, I also trashed my fan. While waiting on the new fan from my dealer, I found a 12v $6 computer server cooling at a local electronics surplus house. It's the same demensions as the stock fan. After removing the rear fan shroud, installed the $6 fan in the same holes as stock. I assumed I would be replacing it after the first trail ride involving water. We'll that was 14 mths ago, several bike drownings, plenty of offroad mud riding, and my $6 fan is still going. I believe it pulls more air through than the stock. Seems to run for only very short intervals. BTW I have the new stock fan as spare.

thanx.... unfortunately i already bought the new blower assembly. i got it for $89. Nice having friends in high places, lol. But i might go and check out your idea and use the new replacement as a spare.

Mother F*cker!!!!!!!!!! Finally went to fix the bike. Had to tweak the fan assembly to make it fit. Turns out the radiator is all at of wack. It bent forward enough that the plastic radiator shroud or body plastics won't mount up unless being really tweaked out of shape. Off to the radiator shop i go. I hope they can straighten it. Otherwise it's a new radiator, yay!

Ooooh crap. That's gonna be pricy.

I read your posts regarding your radiator damage and I am now ready to follow your advice and buy a guard.

I read about the 3 options and surmise the Force may be stronger and is my choice.

Any deals/recommendation on where to purchase the Force?

I bought mine right from Force. Great ppl to deal with.

Laid my bike down on a log, right on the radiator fan. Smashed the fan into the radiator. Didn't realize I had a problem until the temp light came on the next day while riding slow, cutting a new trail. Even then it didn't register, took the light coming on a second time for me to think there might be a problem.

Yami dealer is telling me 5-7 business days... Grrr, I'm already breaking out in cold sweats, feeling the withdrawl!

A radiator guard will be the next mod!

Well my $10 electronic surplus fan finally bit the dust after 5000+ miles.

Cause of failure??? Same thing that did in my original OEM fan; radiator being pushed against its blades causing it to burn up. No damage to radiator from the fan or branch that collided with the radiator thanks to the Billet Guard. The Billet Guard doesn't have the rear/side braces like the Force guard so the collision did push the fan against the radiator. I'm adding side and rear bracing to the Billet guard to isolate the radiator & fan from future impacts. Fortunately, the cost of fans has dropped, replacement only cost $5.00 plus an hour for me to install it.

Have you looked at the guard by Bullet Proof Design?

do you just conect the wires to the computer fan or does it come with the same hook up as the stock oem fan? also do you have to rig the way it is mounted?

I have not heard my fan come on.It must have to get real hot.

About the only time you'll hear it is when the motor's really working hard.
