Soften up X suspension? Suspension newbie here.

So im thinking I am going to do a R conversion to my X.  One thing I noticed the one time I had it at the ohv park was that on small jumps it just about broke my ankles.  I'm no suspension expert or pro rider but I used to own a yz426 that had long travel soft suspension compared to my X.  Is the X's suspension identical to the R's other than settings?  Can I tune my X suspension to be a lot softer when I got with dirt wheels?

How much do you weigh?
What have you done to the available suspension adjustment preload collar/clickers since getting the bike and riding it, including the screw that releases air pressure build-up from the forks?

Haven't done anything with the suspension. Never even checked the sag. It looks to me that its the same parts setup as the r. I just need to loosen things up a little.
