Hi all,
I'm not very active on this forum but I thought it would be nice to share our adventure.
In the end of last year me and my friend left from Europe and crossed the African continent both on WR250R's passing Europe, Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa.
We crossed 20.000 km's in 2 months. Mainly driving off-road, not spending money on accommodation and skipping all tourist destinations. I shipped my Yamaha back to Europe but my friend is still on the road. He shipped his bike to Argentina and will be traveling for a while in Southern and Northern America. After that he is planning to ship the Yamaha to Russia and continue his travel to Europe. But let's see how his travels will continue. We both didn't have any major issues on our WR's. It's really a fantastic small motorcycle.
We kept a blog on: Facebook page
There is as well a small video:
Cheers,
Johan

What type of gas did you run in the bike most of the time?

In most of the countries we used around octane 90 I believe (most of the times it was not indicated). In Egypt in the desert the only gas they had was octane 80 which was clearly not good for the engine (ticking sound). After I came back the fuel system needed to be cleaned because the gas was not going to the engine properly. It was very dirty.

Awesome, thanks for sharing!
Did you run tubes in your tires or did you use a different system?

We both run heavy duty tubes on our wr's. My friend didn't get a single puncture but I had 8 punctures I believe (a few nails and needles from plants). We started the travel on Heidenhau K60's. The front made it until the end of the travel, the rear wore out in Ethiopia (after 10.000 km's) because of rocky dirt roads.

Unusual adventure! You can give the reference to the page on Facebook where your adventures and preparation for a trip are described? I live in Russia, the city of Kazan. I am the big fan of WRR. A year ago I made a big mistake, I sold the WRR as wanted to try in a hard-enduro and bought new Husaberg FE350. But it wasn't pleasant to me, and I. the .snov was bought by WR250R. Your friend already made a trip across Russia?
