What Fuel do you run?

I bought my new 2012 WR250R in 2013.
Yamaha recommends running premium fuel (91)
I have the most of the time but when I go camping I put regular in my toyhaulers' tank for my generator and ATV and a few times I needed fuel and used regular in my WRR.
I've been running regular 87 for the last few weeks and I can never hear any pinging and the bike runs great.

What do you run?

Also, when you choose premium fuel how much regular fuel is left in the hose from the last person and what real octane would it be?

I run either 91 or 94. Mostly 91....

It really doesn't matter that much in this particular bike unless it is very hot out.
When you consider that this bike is meant to run very lean in many different climates it makes sense to specify 91 octane as minimum(which is actually still pretty low).

Now that you have a fuel programmer your bike is most likely at the point where it's running too rich to ping on 87, especially in the winter or if you live in a cooler region it may even run better on 87. Lower octane in theory ignites easier which would be like advancing the timing to some degree. Although the biggest performance difference between fuels would be seen running one without ethanol in it.

I actually could make my WR ping before I got a programmer, it was always at very light almost closed but constant throttle cruising in 5th/6th gear maybe 50 mph. The sound was a very faint rattle that would sort of come and go until you applied more throttle. Also it was summer and I only run premium.

I agree the fuel programmer makes a big difference, so I'm going to stick with 87 and run some 91 in summer if needed.

A local small engine shop tested the gas from a nearby Chevron station and found no ethanol. I run the 91 from that station. When I tried that after initially using Costco 87, my informal "butt dyno" suggested I was getting a bit better engine performance.

I run ethanol free 91 octane in my FZ1 and my WR250R.

I've run ethanol free a few times and between trying Sunoco, Shell and Rutter's 10% Ethanol I can't feel a difference.
I did however run ethanol free from Amerigreen in my 1/2 ton Chevy Silverado and did see a gain of 2 MPG.

I always run the highest octane I can find - most times that's 94, but sometimes 91. Can't say I notice any performance difference. The 91 has ethanol in most places up here in Canada that I know of.

I try to fill up with non-ethanol. Octane isn't an issue. But when I'm in the middle of nowhere and ethanol is only option I'll shoot for 91.
