Does anybody have a picture or design ideas for a minimalist side rack for a 1 gallon Rotopax? I have seen the emerson bigguns rack, and also seen some riders use one only luggage side rack. But are there any other ideas for a simpler, lighter mount for 1 gallon only?

Hi dhally,

What did you mean by 'minimalist' : To use a rotopax you have to have a company designed locking plate, then something to mount the plate to, such as a rack. Wolfman makes their multi-rack adapter plate sys now for the Rotopax: http://wolfmanluggage.com/products/pawnee-plate-for-rotopax; but you still need a rack even a single rack to mount it. If saving a few ounces is your ultimate goal the a simple lock plate:http://rotopax.com/Pack-Mount.html onto your rear rack is the lightest option I can think of.
Here is my personal setup:

I have a 1g, a 1.75g and I also have a rear top plate that will accept the mounting lock so I can carry another Rotopax or Koplin 1.5g I also have.

I guess what I meant was simpler, lighter, and CHEAP/FREE/DIY... I do have the locking mounting plate from Rotopax.

I throw a one liter or msr fuel bottle on the front fender and give it four or five wraps with electric tape. Use it as soon as you can to get weight off front fender. A bottle fits nice in the grooves in the fender and never gets loose or moves. Seems to be the minimalist, Diy, fix for me!  thumb

use a two liter if you need to. Practically weighs nothing when empty and takes up no valuable space on rear.

dhally,

Another possibility is a fuel bladder, I have one in 4 liter. You keep it rolled up and stuffed in your kit, and use it only when you need the extra range. It comes with tie-downs to anchor it on the rear of the bike.
I found a picture of it. It is that OD colored bag on the back of the bike, it is not secured.
