Throttle Housing Empty
PostSubject: Throttle Housing   Throttle Housing EmptyTue Oct 06, 2009 3:50 am

Had to replace my handle bars and was putting all the components on the new TAG bar - didnt realise that there were mounting holes in the original bar but not in the new one... throttle body wasnt sitting tight (due to the locating knob that I didnt know about) so I tightened some more and striped the threat right out of the female socket - so now Im up for a new throttle body.

Has this happened to anyone before? Im learning a lot at the moment - and would rather learn from other peoples experience than damage I am causing... frustrating more than anything else thats for sure!

Cheers
Lance

When I was removing my kill switch for the first time one screw was stuck so I slid it off with out realising about the holes and snapped it's locating knob off. GAHHHH When re-installing I drilled a hole (4x4mm I think) for the throttle and just slid the kill switch back on as it now had no need for a hole.

First, I'd go to the Yamaha motorcycle dealer and order a new part.

If you've got a traditional steel handlebar, I'd drill a small hole that matches the size and location of the tit on the throttle case.
If you've got an aluminum handlebar, I'd be a bit nervous about drilling a hole in it, so I'd probably choose to grind the throttle case tit down just enough to allow proper installation.

When done, the throttle case should still be securely mounted and not twist around. :)

No need to drill holes in the handlebars. Cut the small plastic locating knobs off (aka tits) and snug the two parts down per usual. They won't move with normal use, fallers may see some movement but that's normal. With the knobs removed, you have more flexibility on mounting location and angle of rotation.

That's what I did. Grind the tits off and clamp it down. No movement at all since I installed the new bars. The tits are more for location, than to keep things tight. Lots of people like their stuff at different angles than where the factory sets them.
