So I got a 36 hole rim off a ktm since my WR250r wheel rim cracked.

I was calling around just to get a quote to get the rim relaced.

The guy on the phone said, not all 36 hole rims are the same.  If I bought a rim for a KTM, it will not work for my WR250r since the hub lace pattern is different.

I would normally believe a guy, but this guy was being pretty rude. Plus he gave a whole speech how he doesn't like it when people bring parts to him to fix. I also asked to get my shocks rebuilt and he made it seem since I am taking off the shocks myself he is reluctant in servicing the shocks as well, but is kind of willing to do it.

Is he right?  I find it hard to believe.

I'd find another mechanic, this guy sounds like a jerk.  And I echo what Jens said.  Woody's Wheel Works is the gold standard as far as I know: you may want to get a quote there before either DIY or trusting it to a local mechanic.

Thanks guys.

I am so torn if I should even fix the rim. The ebay R wheels, wheel and hub powder coated, is only 400 bucks.

I was considering powder coating my wheels and hubs in the future and seen quotes for 250. 100 bucks for a rim. 60 for new spokes.

I went to the local yamaha dealer to get the shocks rebuilt and I guess I'll sit on the rim for a bit. No trail riding in the near future. *sigh* Weather is getting nice too.

One consideration is if you have a new rim laced on to the WR hub you'll get a higher quality rim and spokes. A friend did this after damaging his front wheel and Woody's sold him a mid-grade Excel rim and thicker spokes--much better than OEM.
