Turn signal wiring help Empty
PostSubject: Turn signal wiring help   Turn signal wiring help EmptyMon May 14, 2018 12:36 am

After searching the internet, watching YouTube videos, and blowing a fuse, I decided I might need some help with this. I bought a set of universal turn signals that have only two wires. Our bikes however have three wires for turn signals. I had it wired up with the ground wire tied off but the light on the dash stays lit. I saw that you can get rid of the light by wiring two wires together to one of the wires on the turn signal but I have about zero knowledge when it comes to electrical stuff so I’ve been struggling to figure out which wires to what, clearly it’s not blue and black to yellow.. help please!

I got it figured out by finding a simple breakdown on some Harley forum about how to wire 2 to 3 wire turn signal so I figured I’d post it here just in case someone else will be searching for this and comes across it. Universal turn signals will likely come with two wires, especially if they’re the LED ones, some have 3 but those are harder to find.

Simple break down

Turn signal
- negative wire: probably black
- positive wire: red, yellow, or whatever other color

WR250X/R
- negative wire: black
- directional or intermittent: green on right, brown on left
- constant power: blue

Connect on each side negative from turn signal to negative on WR (black to black). Connect the other turn signal wire to brown or green wire, depending on which side you’re wiring. Tie the blue wire off. Don’t cross the wires or turn the bike on or some fuses will be blown. Turn signals lose the constant on now which means it’s possibly not street legal but I don’t think any cop will give a hard time about that. There is a way to do it but I’ve yet to learn it, once I do, I’ll probab set it up right. I bought some $6 turn signals off eBay because I was sick of how ugly the stock ones looked. They look and function great. The turn signal itself is very bright when flashing. Overall I think well worth it. If I knew what I was doing from the get go, I’d say this maybe takes half hour to do.
