Mechancial newbie here (that will probably be pretty obvious from the question I'm about to ask). I dropped my WR250R on its left side the other day -- relatively minor fall in the dirt. But soon afterward I noticed that when I had the bars turned to full lock right, the clutch wouldn't engage at all. So I adjusted the clutch cable at the clutch lever. It got a little better, but not much -- after adjustment, the clutch wouldn't engage until I had lever almost all the way out, and then only all at once, so that the bike would jerk forward when it engaged.

Back home, I took off the plastic to see if I could see the clutch cable catching on anything, and I can't. But the cable is clearly tighter when the bars are locked right. I can see the cable pulling on the thing at the engine that pulls the clutch plates apart (toldja I was a noob) when I turn the bars all the way right. There's free play in the lever when left or neutral, but not when the bars are turned right.

One more point. I have an under-the-bar Scotts steering stabilizer that raised the bars when I installed it. Been riding with it for a year or so, though, and stretched cables were never a problem before this drop.

What to do? If the cable is adjusted at the throttle to be as loose as possible, but the cable is still too tight when full lock right, what the solution?

Again, go easy on me here. Learning . . . .

Thanks for any advice.

Follow the clutch cable all the way down to check the routing. I have 30mm risers on my handlebars and the path of the throttle and clutch cables can make the difference between tight and not tight. I don't know why that would be affected by a tip over but if it was fine before it can be fine again. As you're finding out, adjusting the clutch free play is not the way to solve this.

I had to buy custom +2" control cables from Motion Pro to maintain original routing after installing ProTaper 1 1/8" Woods High bend bars on top of a Scott's SUB mount. In your case the clutch cable might have been at the extreme limit for proper operation without binding until you dropped the bike and imperceptibly rotated the clutch perch or bars enough to cause the binding.
