duplicate key problem

Lurked here for a couple months and have a question. My used 08 came with just one key. I order a key blank (ilco x248) off ebay and took it to my locksmith. He measured it with micrometers before he cut it and said it was slightly different than stock. It ended up fitting gas cap and helmet lock but not ignition. Has anyone ordered a key blank from a dealer and had it cut locally or has anyone used an ilco brand blank with success? Thanks !

Wouldn't it have been about the same price to just order the proper key number from the dealer, already cut to fit? Just saying...

This one works: Ilco X248 YM63. Local locksmith should have it.

My 08 also came with just one key. I got a blank from the Yamaha dealer, but haven't had it cut yet. Hoping a locksmith can do a good job; I've had issues with the copies just barely working on other bikes.

UPDATE. Thanks for the replies. The ilco x248 blank is listed on some sites as compatible, but having one alongside a factory original, there is a very slight difference. I was able to file down the cut key a little and it now works in the ignition as well as gas cap. the x248 key blank is not commomly available.

mwakey- this bike was used and I did not have the key code for it so I could not just order a precut copy from the dealer.

Our local guy must be near 90 years old, has keys galore. Glad you got it sorted out.
