| After searching for tires to put on the X I finnaly decided to buy a set of dirt wheels. There was just not enough choices for the tires.
I ordered them from Wheeling Supply.
I'll let know of the service after I recieve the wheels. I talked with them and at first look they seem very helpfull.

| Recently I had a bud wanting to buy a set of R wheels for his X. Suggested he only consider the front & save a lot of $. There are plenty of selections for that fat 17" rear, same as the KLR, DR650, BMW etc. The front could go w/ either a 21 or a 19. Keep in mind the rear is nearly the same in over height, only 1/2" from the axle which is the real difference. But in the end you are who you must make happy. | |

You're right about that. There is another reason why I buy the set. I commute to work with the bike. I keep SM tires for commuting and I change wheels when playing. So the R wheels have knobbies on them and X have SM.

| I got a set of the R wheels from Wheeling also. Just mounted a set of MT21s with tubliss tubes to the wheels. I hope to have the wheels on the bike this weekend. | |

| which year R1? I bent one of the rotors on mine and ordered a new pair. I have 1 straight front rotor that's been a paperweight for the past few months. If it fits on the wrx that would be fantastic. |

I didn't think about it yet. I'll check Ebay for a second set if the opportunity presents itself.

| I went the other route. I ordered two 17" rear tires. One for the back and one for the front so my bike will look like a TW200, hahaha. Here's a pic of what it will look like with the 17" off-road tires on it. One of the guys on the TT forum did the same with his DRZ https://2img.net/h/i631.photobucket.com/albums/uu32/lincolnlock/100_1332.jpg | |

| We have a couple of guys who already did that. D1EHARD and Rydnseek both put the MT21's on theirs to begin with. Others have gone the same route with different tires like the K270's. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| I'm back from a little trail fun. I'm amazed at how this little quarter pound went through melons, small brooks and small mud spots. And I have the stock tires on it. As long as I gave it gas it was bold to go on. I wouldn't try to ride in deep sand or mud though.
Maybe the dirt wheels are overkill for simple trail riding.

| Started the post with the words "I THINK", Forest didnt tell me what year r1 "MAY" fit, should just call him and ask again. More i dig into this bike the less unique it becomes. Workin on a rear swap now, somthing gonna fit. For tires, right now a set of trials work well. They just dont like slime. | |

Maybe the dirt wheels are overkill for simple trail riding. Knobbies just let you get deeper into trouble before you have problems. :)

Look ahead up on the pegs, steer with the pegs and keep the throttle open. This way at least you have a chance to get out of trouble. If you look down and stop, then it's true the knobbies are pretty good for digging.

| I went on a small ride just the other day and this bike amazes me more and more with each ride. Nothing has stopped me yet. Here is a crappy cell phone pic of me crossing a rocky creek we came across... When I originally put on the 17" knobbies, I thought it was just a temporary solution, but I just can't justify the 900 bucks it would be for a wheel swap. The look has grown on me too, there is nothing else on the road that looks like an X with fat 17" knobs. Some may not like the unconventional look, but it sure is a head turner....and I can rail the thing on the road with these tires now. It just takes some time to get used to the feel. Some of the best bikes going, IMO. | |

How are "which" tires for off road? Do you mean the stockers on the X or after market 17" knobbies? The choices of 17" Knobbies are a bit limited, but there are more than enough choices out there to be had. I am not all that impressed with the Kenda 270 as a front, but it is not because of its off road performance. I am having a difficult time getting them properly balanced for high speed pavement I get a little bit of a wobble above 70mph so I got a 21" rim made and will be putting a Michelin AC10 on it this week. off-road performance of the Kenda (for a 50/50 tire) is excellent so far.
