I read some people are using Seal All. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/reviews/SealAllGlueReview.htm

| My honker arrived too. Now if only my heated gear would so up so I have a second reason to take the bike apart... and the 5" of rain forecasted would miss. | |

| i put my o-ring in today.. very stiff & a tight seal. No leaks. I'll watch it next week on a long grueling ride in utah. I'm going with the spartan look for now.. i'll see how it works on a ride. | |

| I have installed my tank, LOOKS GOOD I will put up pics later, along with an observation and MOD for my 08R. BTW: longer pump bolts are 20mm long (factory is 16mm) I checked for clearance and the thread block in the tank is 12 mm with a few more mm in the nipple. Even the stock tank would take the longer bolts, so you get a few more threads on it and a lock washer. I rode to work tonight so I will check for leaks later. Stay tuned | |

- I was trying to guesstimate the length as well, as far as thread pitch, I can take the new tank to the hardware store for that. I have an ACE close by that has a pretty good selection of nuts, bolts etc. IF I remember correctly, a 5mm is going to be a 1.0 thread pitch
If I get the bolts, I will post up the size and length, I will go tomorrow am.
Anyway, I will have to wait for the "honkin big O Ring" so time is on my side, bald tires and no planned outtings at the moment
Oldirt,
I'd sure appreciate it if you would report back on that. It'd save me some hassles ordering the screws online.
Thanks,
5mm bolt, standard thread pitch (I think 1.0) and 20mm in length (stock length 16mm)

| OK, did a few mock ups before I found this: Rubber bumpers on the frame The molded indents on the tank So, I did this, trimmed the front and back with a knife to allow the tank to set down FINAL RESULT I did install 20mm long allan bolts with lock washers to hold the fuel pump, per the service manual we only need 2.9 ft lbs of torque. All said and done, came out nice with no leaks so far and best of all, it looks pretty much like factory | |

| Going to use the information you guys posted up to do my tank this Saturday. Thanks to all, most of all SheWolf, and Chuck and the Folks at IMS! Running the gas out of the OEM tank today in my commuter Super moto mode. Can't wait to get this stuff installed. This will be nice to have for the upcoming KMSR Dual Sport ride on Oct 17th!

| I got the O-ring today. Damn, that thing is serious!! I may not use it since I already took apart and installed the tank twice. The Seal All seems to be doing the trick. If I do use it though, Have people been able to use the stock bolts for the fuel pump with the O-ring?? | |

| Thanks for posting this!!! How far back (about...) from the front mounting braket is this rubber bumper? I sure don't recall this interference?[/quote] Where the tank sits on these it was preventing the front part of the tank mount to drop to the frame. Made me think I needed to put a 1/2 inch spacer or turn the bracket upside down. It was still a little snug pulling down the front bracket, as the slot for the bolt was at the extreme rear (kind of forcing the tank to the rear), should have dremeled it a bit but was getting impatient and running out of time b4 work. | |

If you read the package about "Seal All" it dries to a hardened form where as the Permatex Hylomar will not cure to a hardened state and stay flexible. We have no experience with the Hylomar, so I can't comment on it, but I can say that Seal-All *really* works well. We have lots of experience sealing up gas tanks with it and it works REALLY well. Just don't store the tube in "chilly" conditions, it turns to jelly & isn't terribly spreadable anymore.

| I used halomar for one reason only--it is pliable, stays that way and is NOT an adhesive. http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_sealants/auto_Permatex_Hylomar_Universal_Blue_Racing_Formula_Gasket_Dressing_Flange_Sealant.htm Seal-all is an adhesive http://www.biosafe-inc.com/sealall.htm I didn't want to glue the pump to the tank but to put on a seam filler if you will. So far so good with the halomar after several hundred miles mostly off road in rocks and water http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=624332 - KLRchickie wrote:

| Thanks for the pics of the bumpers. When it finally stops raining here and I have a chance to do the o-ring swap, I'll probably trim my bumpers too. Shooting for Sunday, as tomorrow and saturday will be spent riding. Ready to cross over 10k now... | |

| Well darn it, mine came last week while I was on a trip, came home and installed it without reading the the thread until today. I loctited the bolts on the fuel pump, used a criss cross tightening method... and mine's a leaker, too. Oh, well, will call IMS on Monday. | |

They were sending the "big O rings" out last week and prior, did the tank come with it ? NO loctite, but you can use a 20mm long pump bolt and put in lock washers.

Yeah, I read the entire thread today. No, tank did not come with the O-ring. I e-mailed them about it. It's really no big deal to me... actually IMS tanks are notorious for not quite fitting right, leaking around the petcock, etc.; I was kind of surprised it went on as easy at it did! My IMS KLR650 tank was pretty spotty quality, and I had to get a new O-ring for my IMS DR650 tank, too... if the new O-ring solves the problem then taking the tank off a few times will be no big deal.

| Apparently, Chuck at IMS took the worst tank he could find and the new O ring and pressure tested both hot and cold and no leaks. I waited to install mine after the o ring arrived. I am surprised that you did not get the o ring, they were really good about getting them out. | |

Yeah, well, the trip I ws on was 18 days so I guess it might have arrived closer to the beginning of that trip, around Sept 12 or so, and not just in the last week. Looks like from the dates of various posts the problem didn't get reported until after that.

| Not much to report. I trimmed the left side rubber bumper about a 1/4". I used Permatex Hylomar Blue on the Honker O-ring. I did not need longer pump bolts. The seat gap is real good. The Tusk Aluminum IMS gas cap works good. I am happy. The bike is torn apart right now in prep for the HDB top clamp, heated grips, Small Pelican case install (for tools, spare tube, ect) Swingarm lube, Head bearing lube, GPS install, ect, ect in prep for my Oct 17th Dual sport ride. Lot of work to do as I will be away on a work trip for the next week and a half. Should be a nice field test of the latest mods. I'll post up some impressions afterwards. | |

I am surprised that you did not get the o ring, they were really good about getting them out. I received my black tank 2 weeks ago with the little o ring. Still have not received the new big o ring. Anyone else having this problem?

| If your tank came with an O-ring, That's the one. Originally you were supposed to use the stock o-ring/rubber gasket. | |

Just checked the bag. I was wrong as there is no o ring at all. I got one of the first batch of tanks.
