| I ordered my black tank a couple days ago on Wednesday. They said that they were backordred until Tuesday and they should ship out then. I hope mine comes with a new o-ring. | |

| Tank came yesterday and included the honker o-ring.
It all went together just fine until I tried to mount the Corbin seat.
The seat bend at the base of the tank has just enough interference that they would not go together (neither the tank anchor, the base anchor, or the fastener hole line-up).
Out came the dremel, rasp and elbow grease. An hour later and 1/4" into the bend area of the pan and all went well.
The gap area is more pronounced with the Corbin as the side-slope of the seat extenuates the attributes.
Otherwise all went together perfectly (exact OEM true position of fasteners and mounts). No leaks.
Thank goodness ! I'm off to the jacuzzi...

I've got a nice stock seat I'd sell you!! (inside joke). Seriously tho if you want the stock seat back due to the tank issues I could make it happen.

| OKDQ: Baaaaaaahahahahahaaaaaa.... THAT is FUNNY ! No. I think the seat (and the money) is fine where it is. She says "Thank-you" again BTW. The Corbin was a potential solution for the girl's diminutive stature in relation to the ground. Unfortunately Corbin doesn't build a replica pan nor does the Corbin seat effectively raise the ground. :) ....but as long as her ass is happy, I'm happy ! | |

Okay, that kind of sucks. They are shipping o-rings with new tanks but I still do not have mine. I paid them well over a month ago AND I am going to have to install this tank twice.

| Ahhh.... Ummm.... Well..... Sorry.
I know these guys are doing what they can to acomodate us and unfortunately making trade decisions based on availability is part of making business decisions.
Look at it this way. Maybe you won't have to blow fiberglass shavings off yourself. * puff, peuef, pffffttt *

| My tank was from the first run and it leaked right away. I notified IMS even before the big o-ring solution. I was led to believe their top priority was to existing customers with leaky tanks AND that the "limited" supply of o-rings would go to those customers first. Needless to say, I am disappointed that people are receiving new tanks with the o-ring and I am still waiting for mine. - okdq wrote:

I believe mine was the first black tank shipped... Also in today, my EXUP Servo Eliminator! (yeah, I suck at electrical improvising, and I wanted a clean plugin.) So I'm now ready to remove the AIS, the EXUP, and the airbox flapper servo, then glue the flapper, and install the FMF Q4 and MegaBomb! If only I had time - busy until Monday. I also need to install this when it arrives, to stop chain from nipping at the 150/70/17 tire: http://www.wheelingcyclesupply.com/shop/30/18/index.shtml Then I'll think about installing the IMS tank! (no longer rides coming up this year.)

| Seepage was just starting last Thursday on my tank, so I called IMS for the o-ring. It arrived today. I installed it using 5mm x 25mm bolts with washer stacks on 2 bolts to pull it down a bit, then started the OEM bolts and pulled it down the rest of the way. So I just used the 25mm long bolts as an installation tool. It's a new pump, so I'm not expecting to have to R&R it on the trail. Since I read that some are finding their pump bolts loose, I used blue loctite. Is the seepage stopped? I hope to ride on Thursday. I'll keep an eye on it. Hat's off to IMS for the fast ship! ar-II |

Then I'll think about installing the IMS tank! (no longer rides coming up this year.) Well, then here in Western Canukistan we should get our O-rings in another week. As for an extra chain guard, I don't worry about it. My last pair of 150 contis had some real chew marks on them, but nothing I was worried about. The tire protects the rim pretty well. I think most of the chain/tire interference comes in when I dump it. My tip over sensor doesn't seem to work. On the weekend after summersaulting down a hill I looked back up to see my bike sitting there idling on it's side, tire and chain having a good old time together.

Am I worrying too much? When your bike isn't running, how close is the chain to the tire edge? I'd say mine is 1 or 2 mm.

| I'd have to look at the clearance on mine to be sure but I'm guessing I've got about 3mm between the tire and chain just sitting there. I had to substantially trim the plastic chain guard to get the tire to fit.
They way I look at it is this. When you're under power, the chain is tensioned and won't touch. It's only when you're off the throttle that it is likely to touch. I also see many motards at the track with chain marks on their tires as many of them are running 160s on their dirt bikes.
So, I'm not worrying about it, but if such a guard exists and it makes you feel better, then by all means, get the piece of mind and enjoy.

| anyone putting lube on the new tank o-ring?
BTW: I've never had a leak or a seep from the original installation, now I've been packing the new o-ring just in case I get a leak somewhere but if I don't have and don't get a leak, why mess with it? I know IMS recommends installation... but they have thousands of tanks out there on other models and no leaks with OEM seals. This tank is on the same production line.
If you haven't had a leak or a seep please speak up, is this leak stuff a small problem or a large problem?
thanks, G. | |
