I've got the even more absurd megabomb header, and have ridden in 110 degree weather, never noticed any heat on my leg. Jeans, work pants, riding pants... Nothing. Wonder why only some people complain of header heat. scratch

I've got the stocker on mine and it's been pretty good. header wrapped my pipe 61865

Only time I've ever noticed it was when riding in shorts. Yeah, yeah, save it, I'm not looking for a lecture. I know what can happen and I don't do it often.

Don't forget that that header wrap will increase your muffler temp maybe by a whole lot
It may have an effect on tuning as well as exhaust pulses move faster through hotter thinner exhaust
Heat dissipation, exhaust temp would have been accounted for when they made the head pipe
Curious to see it wrap changes things

Probably depends how people sit and position their legs on the bike.

hjharn: Maybe your leg is already burned and you can't feel it, or at those temps, you are radiating heat INTO the pipe ? Very happy

I wrapped mine also when I noticed I had little melted spots on my riding pants shortly after putting the fmf pipe on there.

well it seemed to help a little, heat is not as noticable now which is nicer.

Not sure if the bike running a little on the lean side or not. I just have the basic PCV download map. I have the auto tune setup, just waiting for a nice long day so i can weld in the bung for the O2 sensor and let it correct itself.

Personally I haven't had any heat issues off the stock header....... but I always have riding pants on whenever I ride.

I also have a problem with heat and it seems that my right boot would get hot where right where the exhaust is. I don't know if it was from the frame getting hot or just radiated heat from the exhaust. When I ride I do keep my legs and feet snug against the bike. Maybe I just need to loosen up a little. Very happy

To try and eliminate the problem, I wrapped my exhaust too but just the part where it goes behind the frame. I was worried about the rear master cylinder, Shock, and brake light switch getting overheated and I wanted to get some of the heat off of my ankle. This did help with my boot getting hot but I found another problem. My pants got burnt on the exhaust just before it enters the muffler. I didn’t want to put the passenger peg on or add more wrap so I made a guard out of some steel rod. I just made the guard Sunday so I haven’t tested it yet. Hopefully it’ll save my next pair of pants.

I think that's a lot of it. I've got highway pegs on my WR. Yeah, seriously. And I love 'em. BUT - my textile pants melted all over my megabomb header. Not sure if header wrap would help with that or not... present plan is to get a friend to sew some thin leather onto the textile pants where the melted areas are plus some.

The other point about elevated internal exhaust temps... will this make the glass packing burn out faster?

I still think header wrap is a clever idea and might help my situation. Where'd ya' find the black wrap versus the usual white/grey lighter colors??

Thanks,

BigFeet
