The fit is great ! Looks good.

There are probably several theories and opinions about it's usefullness. I believe most guard installers simply did not reinstall it.

With air moving through the radiator there would be a restriction to the air flow.

With the radiator fan on it appears that by design, the theory would be to draw the heat from the scoop up and into the fan cage (so the fan would be collecting and blowing hot air back into the radiator).

I know someone installed a thermo-strip (thermistor) with a gauge on it (to determine both with and without the shield temps). My recall was that the impact was negligible.

...on the other hand, I've never experienced (and with the girl riding it around as slow as it can go in very warm CA conditions, have had several opportunities to have it happen) nor heard here that anyone was having any overheating problems.

Maybe it's to keep the heat off your right leg ! ...or it could be a coffee filled-Camelbak recycling heater for cold weather ! (which ya know what, almost sounds like a great idea for cold weather riding)

Maybe one of you smart kids could engineer fluid fed bar warmers (feed through heating tubes in the bars) It would add fluid and cooling capability. :)
