Yes, retains all factory plastics.

My 3.1 gallon is now installed but notice a 1" gap under the seat on both sides. Is this normal? Tank was installed by a Yamaha Dealer in Sierra Vista AZ. I have a new Sargent Seat coming and hope it will fit and things are not worse.

I installed my 3.1 IMS tank during this past turkey day weekend. I do not have the gap you're talking about. I removed the heat shield off the OEM tank and applied it to the IMS tank - minor cutting to heat shield. The IMS tank fits very nice with the heat shield.

Did a couple runs on my IMS 3.1 tank to 'fuel warning'... the light comes on at approx 150 miles.
Filled up the tank, based on 3.1 gallons there was .7 gallons left in the tank. Not sure how much the fuel pump will pull out of the bottom of the tank.
Figure on .5 gallons likely 30 miles = tank full, 180 miles, range 90 miles.

Got the new Sargent seat installed yesterday. It has a large gap (1+ inch) between front of seat on both sides and tank/frame. Stock seat had a 1 inch gap at bottom. No bottom gap on new Sargent only front of seat to tank.

The Sargent seat looks nice with blue welt but is very hard and keeps one at least one inch higher due to harder foam density than the stock. It does not allow you to settle down into the seat and you have the feeling of riding on top and not in the seat. Feels like I am way too high now. I can't say it is worth $350 and probably could have spent my money more wisely. I have not taken a long trip with it yet but do not expect too much comfort because of the rock hard foam.

Some difficulty getting the seat on with the IMS 3.1 gallon tank. Some weight, pushing and shoving to get it far enough forward to get the mounting holes and bolts to match up. Not Sargents fault due to after market tank.

Searched, didn't see an answer...any of you ex-KLR riders attempt to install your Wolfman Rainier on this tank?

Would be great if I don't have to buy a new tank bag. I may be moving up in terms of ride from the KLR, but I'm having trouble completely abandoning the "cheap bastard" mentality that has served me so well for the last several years.. Very happy

Well...to answer my own question and one posted earlier - no, the Ranier doesn't fit a 3.1, and yes the Fandango does.

On the Ranier - not even close, it's way too big.

The GL Fandango fits fine with a minor annoyance. If you take your seat off routinely (access to programmer, for instance) the Fandango harness is a PITA. The harness does not use quick release connectors like the Wolfman, and the rear of the harness goes over the front edge of the seat. Loosening up the harness is necessary, and takes a few minutes.

Pics of the Fandango and harness on the 3.1 below.
