| So with the license plate higher, do you actually get all the mud sprayed on your back?
Just wondering. There has to be a reason the stock one is so massive.

| It's ugly, that's all I know. With my setup you do get mud flinging up from back there, but I don't care. Mud is fun, and besides, that's what a washing machine is for. My old DT200 had a whale tail like that too, and that was back in 86 already. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| The stock crap is likely something to make it a street legal bike from the factory. | |

| it only comes that way from factory due to needing to meet certain standards to be street legal. if it was strictly for mud the YZ's would come with something similar and sportbikes would not come with something similar. and technically, at least in some states, the DRC one is not even legal. I've never heard of anyone getting hassled though. when I ride offroad I completely remove the tail light/blinkers/license plate all together. | |

The tail light isn't DOT approved. This can be a problem for folks in states that need to get an annual inspection, depending on how nit picky the mechanic is.

| I noticed after I installed the DRC edge 2 tail light with the license plate mounts that I do get a bit more mud splashed up on my back than I did with the stock BS. I've even considered making some sort of mud flap to extend past my license plate to help keep the mud off my back. All in all it's really not that bad....
One thing I had to do to my DRC edge 2 tail light was open it up and seal it with a good amount of silicone so mud and water wouldn't get inside and destroy the electronics... I also have the 12 O'Clock Labs integrated electronics for it.
For the record I've been pulled over for several reason while I've had this tail setup, one the officer had a hard time reading my plate because of the angle and it's sort of mangled form several spills, two he mentioned that my turn signals are suppose to be at least 6 inches apart. I explained to him that due to my off road spills that's why my license plate is mangled and the turn signals have been destroyed. He told me I should get those fixed and let me go(with no ticket)....

I wasn't surprised when I looked at your location and saw "CA." In fact, some states don't even require turn signals. Adding some extra water proofing is definitely a good idea. I should do that to mine.
