| No worries about traction, they've definitely got a lot of that. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

First, if you are having fitment issues, call them and have them walk you through it.
Second, if you are experiencing fuel starvation issues, you may have tapped the wrong vacuum line. The pump needs a vacuum PULSE to work properly because it is a diaphram type pump. There are two vacuum lines there, and you must use the one for the AIS and not the MAF sensor or the pump will not work!
Again, if you are having any issues call IMS, this is why they have tech support! Any chance you can get a good picture posted of the AIS vacume hose?? The pictures on my set of instructions were pretty usless. I have not yet tried to run with low fuel level. Sounds like I better do that to make sure I have a correct install.

It's the one on the top with the rubber outer hose. Splice in about halfway between the frame cross member and the little blue-topped check valve.

| Quick question about these tanks, how wide are they at the knees? Still suitable for sitting right up the front of the seat etc when going hard and sticking the leg out to try to rail a corner?? | |

It's been fine for me. The tank is a little wider between the kness, but I'm used to riding a KLR, so it still fills skinny.

| Well mine and my mates just arrived. Looks like I will be the first bike in Australia to have this tank on. Fingers crossed I have no problems as sending it all the way back to the US for a replacement would be VERY costly! | |

| Subject: IMS 5 gallon tank? Tue Jun 07, 2011 7:34 pm | |
| It took me two rides, but I ran my new tank completely empty. And I mean completely. Timing couldn't have been better as the engine sputtered it's last, then I coasted 400 m down the highway, through the ditch and rolled right up to the pump. And anyways, either my gas station is ripping people off or my tank fits 5.06153652 US gallons (or 19.16 litres.)
By the way, I lowered my low fuel sensor (taking off the whole plastic clip thing and zip-tying it underneath the catch for the clip and it went a little over 70 (corrected) km on the low fuel light.

| tierhawg- I had them ship me three tanks. The first leaked, the second I couldn't get a screw to thread for mounting the fuel pump. Each time they sent the new tank the next day. Now I just need to send the first two back. Hopefully they will come through for you. The third tank has worked well. Love the extra range. | |

| Tierhawg, I did forward the email from you to IMS as soon as I got it from you yesterday, and I called IMS before they closed to make sure they had seen the message. I also comfirmed to them that you dont want to try another tank. At this point I just need to hear from them if they plan to issue a refund direct to you, or if they are going to credit me so I can issue you a refund. When i spoke with Jack yesterday afternoon he indicated that he had to hear from his boss which way they wanted to handle it. If I haven't heard from them by about 1pm my time ( giving them a couple of hours after opening) I will call them again. | |

| I hope that the problems all get solved before I get around to putting my tank on. I guess it will first on my list as soon as I get back from vacation.

| I think the issue on ours was that i had left the vaccuum line too long and it was getting pinched. | |

| I am fitting my tank at the moment. Just want to confirm. The vacuum line I "T" into is the one that goes from the throttle body toward the air box that goes to a little funny looking filter/'T' piece. | |

That's the one in the pic. "T" in just in front of that little clip. I cut off about 4 inches from the supplied vacuum hose and had no problems with pinching.

| Any of you use the open vacuum port (available after taking off the AIS/Servo/Flapper instead of "t"ing into the other vacuum port?
Is it ok to do this? I did and seem to work ok?

| Took my bike for a 4 day ride out in Central/Eastern Oregon. Never a worry about having enough fuel. Finally rode the bike home and got the low fuel light to come on at 255 miles. (don't know if the ODO is accurate- that's the next test). I filled the tank with 4.3 gallons- leaving about 1/2 gal. I had lowered my sensor (and removed the plastic clip on the fuel pump per Chadx). No fuel starvation issues. Glad I got the tank! | |

Is it ok to do this? I did and seem to work ok? that was what i used. I had a small piece of hose with a golf tee in it for the plug for the ais/flapper mod. I pulled it off & used the longer hose to connect to that line, then to the tank. I cut off some of the excess so it would not bind or get pinched.

Yep. Works fine. I just push it high up on top of the cap and bend the vent hose forward. The crown of the tank and cap does reduce the volume in the bag though.

| I've gone through this thread and just had to ask if anyone went after these IMS tanks after having a safari tank?
As far as build, I've never had a problem with the safari. I've laid mine down too many times to count and even flipped mine off a tree a few weeks ago (don't ask... ) without any issues. I'd like to add another gallon to my arsenal, but this sounds like it would be too suspect.
As I remember back in the day IMS wasn't even interested in making a tank for us WRs?

For every person that you read about having issues, there are just as many if not more that have had none. Myself included. I to was worried for a while after I first installed it. But it's all for not as I've had no problems. My WRR has been on it's side plenty and I've even slammed the front wing directly into a tree. Still no issues.
