Following on from my Heidenau tyre test K60 or Mefo Explorer

For my next test I will be looking at the Mitas E09 Dakar. A reinforced "big-bike" tyre in a 130/80 size that has more knobbles than the Heidenau K60 and is rated 80:20 OFFROAD.

I will be driving from Barnaul (Russia), across Mongolia, up to the start of the BAM road in Siberia and then all the way up to Magadan via the Kolyma Highway a.k.a. road of bones! About 6000km in all.

Mitas E09 Dakar - Rear 130/80

I promise to let you know what it looks like along the way...

Some of the key reasons for choosing this tyre is the low cost and higher proportion of offroad in Mongolia and Siberia. I am hoping that this will perform as well as the TKC does and the friend I'm travelling with has an identical pair on his DRZ400 so we will be able to compare the results against a sample of 2 sets. More later.

I couldn't find much info on these tyres at the time but I did spot this thread about a bloke in Oz who did an outback trip with crazy-big jerrycans on the footpegs...

Sorry, a bit off topic, but I was reading about your riding report in your blog: WOW ! very impressive indeed. bow bow
Definitely stuff that dreams are made of. thumb

Could you tell us some more about how your WR fared? Did you have any serious issues? And how did it hold up against the Suzuki? Was the Yamaha a better choice?

Maybe start a new thread? I am sure people love to hear more!
