I've got 7,000 miles on my R2. I'm hearing a pulsing sound from the motor. Kind of a whiring, wa, wa, wa. Timing chain maybe? It's not real loud, but it bothers me on the freeway. Repetitive pulsing.

See if you have a tight spot in your drive chain
The engine would be spinning 5000 - 7000 rpm, there are no parts that could spin slowly enough inside the engine that you could get that kind of cycle from

Put the bike on a stand and run it up to speed and you can move around the bike and listen to it, load it up with the rear brake etc, have a buddy use the throttle and be a safety for you

I can hear it in neutral when I hold the revs constent. I have no tach, but guessing 6-7 thousand RPM. Kind of a pulsing, or harmonic sound. It doesn't sound threatning, just anouying .

Ya I guess that rules out the chain
The cam and cam chain are still spinning a half crank speed so you could not hear a pulsating noise from there
How about in gear with the clutch pulled in?
At that point much of the transmission and clutch are not spinning
Clutch basket spins about 10 times slower than crank speed by my guess

like 007onWR says, there's nothing turning at that speed in your engine,
so you're talking harmonics, like when gears with different teeth mesh, they mesh at the same tooth every 50-150 revs...
possibly just noise from your gears, as they wear, the clearance increases (in the bearings too)...
like you say, I don't think it's threatning...
