| I know promotobillet is great, and the AMS racks look great, but has anybody tried a Flatland racing rack. It is definately the right price.

Any thoughts
Thanks | |

| haveing tried to decide on what i want i still havent. my only thoughts are how much could i carry and what are the tiedown possibilities. if i do a fender mounted rack i may design my own and have it cut at my old place of employ, the one i made for my harley will easily hold 2 cases of or a lot of fire wood. sean | |

Thanks I haven't seen the Flatland rack before. I think I like it better than the Promotobillet, and it's way cheaper. So, Ironbrewer, are you getting a WR instead of a TE-610?

| Howdy Kbike,
Yeah I'm flying out to Sacramento on the 26th and riding back. I'm pretty excited. I thought i was asking about a horrible vender, because all I was hearing was crickets. How is it going?

Thanks I loke the billet look, but I went with this tube rack off of fleabay. Super sturdy, cheap and arrived quick. http://www.ebay.com/sch/sr8dirt/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 He doesn't seem to have the WR rack listed but he definitely makes them. Here's one for the WRF, the WRR one doesnt' require any cutting or drilling into the plastic:

| That Ebay rack doesnt look too bad, although it seriously needs to have more center-braces installed for more support and mounting points. | |

It isn't as pretty as a billet rack, but the Fleabay one I have for the WRR has 4 cross bars whereas the WRF one in the picture shows 3. The rack mounts on one side with 2 bolts to the helmet lock bracket and on the other side with one bolt to the muffler bracket. IMHO it's a pretty stout unit and it doesn't bend significantly if I pull up with all of my weight. I'd guess it's limited in mounting by the yammy's limits for the rear frame weight limits.

| I think I decided to make my own rear rack. I picked up a 12 inch by 13 inch of 1/4 inch aluminum plate and a friend with a machine shop is going to make 4 standoffs for me. It probably won't look as nice as the fancy ones, but it should be quite servicable. | |

Could you post a pic pf yours? Soitenly! Pictures of said rack on the very enjoyed WR after an all day ride in the coal mud at Reading Anthracite. It seems sturdy (I haven't bent it yet) and it holds bungees well tho it doesn't look the nutz like the billet racks do. IMHO given the weight limit of the rear subframe it's the best that can be done. It was 90 bucks shipped.

| So I decided to make my own rear rack. I got a piece of Aluminum plate from a friend and started cutting and drilling it. I used 3/8 inch brass nipples for standoffs and bolted it on. I know it isn't as spiffy as the store bought ones, but it will do the job for me and is the right price. Here are a couple of pics. It KLR tech at its best!! | |
