Engine feels like a turd in power???

08 wrr 900 miles, power bomb header, supposedly a reflash, stock muffler. Never stalls runs decent, but this thing feels like something is holding it back, real boggy in power unless you really wind it out not impressed at all so far with the power any suggestions or are they all this way? Rode a wrx and it felt way torqier than my bike. Argh!!!,!,

Might not be anything wrong with your bike as they make their best power at high revs. My first thought is clean and oil the air filter and see if it makes a difference.

Do you happen to know what mods were made to the WRX? I'm thinking it may have had things like an aftermarket pipe, opened up airbox, aftermarket programer, different size sprockets etc.

Larger rear sprocket and the appropriate chain would probably be next on my list as they give good bang for the buck. Stock rear sprocket on a WRR is 43 teeth (42 on WRX). I can recall seeing that some people have gone as high as a 52 tooth sprocket. I wouldn't go that high if you intend to ride it on the superslab but that's just my opinion. Lots of info on sprockets & chains on this site.

I am curious about the reflash. Was this to an aftermarket programer or perhaps something the dealer did to the ECU?

Any other mods been done on your WRR?

What's the gearing? Gearing is huge on these bikes.

It might be the 14 tooth sprocket. Stock is 13, I went for a 12.

Going up on the rear sprocket or down on the front can make this bike feel brand new. I run 12/47 on days where I am going for strictly offroad riding (thinking of going 12/49) and on days where I am hitting more street then dirt I run 13/47. Big difference. Cheapest way to get the bike happier. Gearing you should be able to do for $150ish for the whole set.

Pipe and programmer helps a ton but your looking at close to $850 for the full setup. You have a power bomb so that would save $150.

These bikes have to be run in the mid to high revs to produce any kinda of pull, otherwise they are turds.

Try riding like you stole it and you will be surprised with the power this little thing can kick out.

That is really tall for this bike unless you are trying to gear it for highway cruising.

I am running a 13/48 and I am considering going to 13/50+ or putting a 12 on the front.

Just to jump on the dogpile, 14/43 is waaaaay too tall. Swap in a 13T and enjoy, I found stock gearing to work really well on the X for me and my nearly all pavement and lots of commuting riding.

Came with that gearing, i plan on doing mostly around town and in aug. Going from colorado to oregon

I run 13/48 and you can still cruise as fast as you like.

I believe your problem is the fact your still using the stock muffler. The power bomb is nice but you still have a lot of crap in the stock parts that are keeping it from reaching its maximum potential. I would also suggest a programmer if you have the cash to get one. You won't get the most out of the pipe otherwise.
