| Just make sure that whatever oil you buy is actually motorcycle oil.
Don't just go to Pep Boys and buy Pennzoil.
Get oil designed and intended for motorcycles.
Also - be SUPER careful with the oil filter bolts when you put everything back together. Very soft. Very easy to torque the head clean off.

And don't forget the rubber O ring behind the filter. And be sure to tilt your bike straight when checking your oil level (the little glass display on the right). And show us some pictures of you new ride

| you would be better off asking a local... some auto parts stores in the US have filters for our bikes. In my opinion you are better off using the stock yamaha filter for oil | |

| When asking about oil you are going to get as many or more opinions than facts. My opinion is this is. I have been using Rotella in all my bikes for at least 7 years. On an forum dedicated to SV650's (back when I rode those) there was a petroleum engineer on there that had a very informative post about the qualities Rotella and how this diesel oil works very well in bikes. I have used it ever since without issue. | |

| The oil filter for our bikes is about the size of an old roll of 35mm film.
I would be highly surprised if an auto parts store had something like that.
I'd call them before making the trip.

| That bike is looking way too clean ! Looks good though! I always get my oil filter from a yamaha dealer. May be a bit more expensive but it puts me on the safe side. | |

| Good looking bike ! You might want to downsize your pictures though. They are pretty darn big now, making the thread slow to load especially when somebody has a slow internet connection. 800x600 px should be big enough. I just buy my filter and the oil at the dealer, just because it's convenient and I get the chance to check out what goodies are on sale. As far as oil, I think eveybody has a personal opinion about it but there is no extreme quallity difference when it come to good brand names. There are just a few real oil suppliers. They all get their oil there. The rest is (maybe) additives and packaging. It is not that Yamalube makes their own oil. Just don't get some cheap no-name stuff because you won't be saving much anyway, there is not much oil in your bike. I use 10W30 btw. | |

| I bought an X resently. When I checked the oil level I found that it was at the correct level in site glass when on the side stand. Will be correcting that soon with a new oil change with amsoil oil 20/50 and new filter. Must be OK at that level as it has about 13k with no issues. Berwyn | |

umm well to be completely honest I was hoping it would be a little bit louder lol... I like loud bikes I guess, but no if anything it’s probably at the sweet spot IMO i have a follow up question if anyone knows, will buying the fmf mega bomb header make the bike sound more crisp? and will it give it more powe*r? EDIT * oh also, i have a spark arrestor in the exhaust as well, would that have any effect on its power or sound it makes?

| About synthetic oil: I've heard it's not good for motorcycles because of the clutch lubrication? | |

From all that I have read, the problem with synthetics is that some of them have various compounds that are deposited on the internal parts. These additives can cause the clutch plate to slip. There are plenty of folks that use synthetics successfully, just not all synthetics (read one or more of the which oil threads). I just changed my oil and put in Rotella synthetic and there is no slipping and the shifting between first and second got better. Jonathan

| Ah, ok, so it's partially correct. I just need to find synthetic specific for motorcycles... | |
