Given the incessant musing on what is the best combination for the bike - an impossibility because we ride in different environments and in different ways - I thought I'd throw these up here. Just because I can!

So there's some grist for the mill. Hmmmm... and an included test, possibly making the whole thing valueless.

One thing... PLEASE don't quote this whole message when posting here. Meaning... don't repetitively post the above graphics over and over again...

And I'm not sure why the first graphic appears so fugly...

that's awsome info....but the c/s tooth size is going opposite the data in the second and third chart.

i just got thru going for a quick ride and i noticed that on-road i usually shift out of first around 20mph by the display...so that would be what? around 17 or so actual....
i'm running the 12/43....it really helped, but it's still geared too high.

Aaaannnnnnddddd!!!! We have a winner on the test!

I didn't even notice that until I posted it and saw that, according to the chart, the smaller my countersprocket size, the higher the speeds.

Hmmmmmm... is it just a backwards mis-labelling of the Y-axis on the chart, or is the whole thing hooped data-wise? Where's The Hermit when you need him?

When I get some time, I'll go back and run those again and see if this is a persistent bug or if it was just a one time weirdness.

For me, I suspect 13/46 or 47 might be my best case scenario - which always leaves the possibility of throwing on a 12 tooth if necessary. I don't do a lot of slow speed plonking or ugly climbs, so just a little improvement on that 1st gear should be fine.

Right now, I'll just run the stock setup until it is time to replace it. Then we'll see if I want to go the ultimate route with Sidewinder stuff, or keep some coin in my pocket and choose something a little less spendy.

sweet! i won! lol...i actually hated to say it was backwards....you know if someone(like yourself) bothers to go thru the trouble to share good info and then to just have some jackass/smartass(me) pop up and tell ya it's backwards..lol dddog

for me on the gearing...i like to be able to climb the bigger hills in second, carry momentum to get up...when possible ..and save first for the times when second was the wrong choice. right now to me off road,1st is still a little too tall and second is way too tall for any steep hill climbs.
i like your idea of the 12 or 13 c/s swap for the occassion. thumb

I almost just deleted the post after I started looking at the graphics when they first loaded. But I'd gone to enough trouble at that point that I couldn't be bothered. The annoying thing is I don't know if the chart is reversed on tooth count from top to bottom or if it's just mindless glop that bears no association to reality for any gear combination. I should go take a look, but not right now.

I know with my 12/43 setup, I can go up some pretty steep stuff in 2nd. Rob followed me and he had to drop into 1st on his 350. dunno

Nice charts Jager...I was alittle confused myself after going though them and noticing the smaller sprockets having better top end. But then i figured it might be some kind of mistake. Check in to the charts again though you did a really good job on these ones...there just alittle mixed up.(or mabye its just me.)
