| Subject: 2008 WR250X with 17,000 Miles. Should I buy? Thu Nov 29, 2012 8:53 pm | |
| Lurked these forums a bunch recently while looking for a bike and finally registered so hello everyone.
Title says it pretty much all. There is a local dealer that has a WR250X with 17,000 miles for $4,200.00. The only thing that troubles me is the Mileage on it...sounds high to me but I'm really not sure. Any advise or info on what to expect would be appreciated.
Thanks. | |

| Hmmm, it really all depends on how it's been treated. These bikes last forever, their first maint isn't until 26,000 miles!
Do you know a lot about bikes? How they should feel, what to look for, etc? Have a mech look over it for $50 (offer to pay it and tell the seller if the mech says it checks out you'll for sure buy the bike, and if you don't, the seller will have a better selling point for the next buyer).
It's a lot of miles, but besides some wear items the bike shouldn't be in bad shape just because of the miles...

| I paid $3600 a little over a year ago for my 2008 WR250x which had only ~600 miles on it. Basic upgrades were on it- pipe, header, and programmer. That seems a little high on price for the mileage. But these things rarely go up for sale in my area. The web is where you'll find the best deal, but ask yourself if it will be worth the possible travel/shipping expenses to save a few hundred. If you can get some extra farkles thrown in I'd say go for it. Maybe a pipe, helmet, etc These bikes last forever, check this out: https://wr250rforum.forumotion.com/t8205-who-has-the-highest-milage | |

These bikes last forever, check this out: https://wr250rforum.forumotion.com/t8205-who-has-the-highest-milage I thought that it might be a little high also for the mileage but exactly as you said it is hard to find a WR250X my area as well. I figure with the extra cost of the wheels and stuff like that I would want to get convert WR250R I think its still reasonably priced because the X is what I would want to end up with. Thanks also for the input.

The bold yellow text says it all. Price is high - but supply and demand are key here. There ain't no more supply of new X's. I would not pay that much for a 4, going on 5 year old bike with 17,000 miles on it. But that's just me. A lot depends on how bad you want one, how long you've been looking, how often a used one is put up for sale, and what condition the bike looks like it's in. For that kind of money the X better have brand new tires, a replaced fuel pump (2008's had some bad ones), a new battery, and pristine plastics. Hell, I'd even insist the dealer do a full 26,000 mile service on it for you including the valve check for that price. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| That price is way too high for the miles and year. I would sell my 09 with 10k miles and in perfect condition, pipe, programmer, intake, bark busters, etc... for that much in a heart beat lol. | |

| Might be a bit high, but it really depends on where you live and the demand.
I bought mine with 2800 miles a few months ago, also an '08, with some nice add-ons and the thing was immaculately clean, like if the odo didn't say 2800 I would have thought it was fresh out of the crate. I paid $4300, and don't regret it a single bit.
I would not be scared at all by the mileage, but it should take the price down a little. I think I would probably pay $3800 to $4k for that bike with that mileage, but again it depends on the demand where you live.
Can you make an offer to the dealer? They might want to get it off the floor if it's been there a while.

| IMO, that's a lot of money for a 2008 with that many miles. I'd keep looking. | |

| Overpriced. I got mine (2008) for $4K (at PA) with 600 miles. You can find new 2012 models for $5.5K
If you are looking for a deal, offer $2000 for the 2008-17000 miles.

| Got mine new 2yrs ago for $3995 plus tax and crate. May be a bit biased here, but anything more I think is getting into ripoff territory, especially with 17k mi. | |

| I just bought my 2008. 3,300 miles for just under $4,000 out the door (taxes, fees, registration, etc) of a local dealership.
I think price before everything else was $3550. Had a lowering link and aftermarket skid plate. Otherwise stock, but missing rear pegs. Had to buy some for $100 off ebay.
I'd wait to get something with less than or about 5000 miles for around $4000.
