Installing a Seat Concepts seat on a WR250XStep by step guide with photos. Created with information provided by seat concepts.
Note: I am waiting for my stapler to arrive.Required stuff:
- 10mm socket
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Stapler (preferably pneumatic)
- 3/8"-1/2" (9.5mm-12.7mm) crown staples and 1/4" (6.35mm) deep. (preferably stainless steel)
- Seat Concepts seat
- Optional: spray adhesive
The bike:
Salty roads in MI = no winter riding
The Seat:
Step 1Remove seat from bike.
Step 2Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolts that are holding down the seat strap.
Step 3With a flat-head screwdriver, remove the staples holding the seat cover to the seat pan.
There are hidden staples, you must find the bastards!
Step 4Once you have removed every single staple, remove the seat cover.
Step 5Gently remove the seat foam from the seat pan.
There are small amounts of adhesive holding the seat foam down. Take your time to avoid damaging a perfectly good seat pad!
Step 6 optionalSand any rough edges or excessively built up adhesive.
Step 7Place the seat foam onto the seat pan.
Optional: place a small amount of spray adhesive on the seat pan.
Step 8Place the seat cover onto the seat foam and do an initial line up.
Optional warm up the seat cover in the sunlight. (HIGHLY RECOMMEND)
Near the back of my seat there was barely enough material to wrap over the seat pan.
Step 9Begin stapling the cover to the pan. Start by tacking the front and back with a few staples then work your way from front to back.
Adjust the cover alignment as you alternate side to side with the staple gun. Be sure to take your time and remove any large wrinkles as you go.
Make "V" cuts around corners where there is excess material. (I didn't fully understand where to do this so I never cut the material)
Step 10Inspect for wrinkles then re-install strap if desired.
Additional Tips and NotesIf there are wrinkles remaining after you finish stapling, remove the corresponding staples and attempt to flatten the wrinkle. Re-staple the area.
There is no way you can do this properly without a pneumatic stapler. This setup worked great:
