| Hi, I have a 2008 X. I have a pdf of the owners manual, but I can't find a reference for what this switch does. This is the front side of the left fairing, opposite the radiator. Is this standard equipment or a Frankenstein's monster add-on? The bike is second- or third-hand, and I'm raising my eyebrows more and more as panels get removed. Thanks in advance. | |

| can't really see what you mean from that picture sorry but in any case there shouldn't be any switch anywhere in that area. Somebody must've fiddled with the bike. did you try pressing it? does anything happen? | |

| Start looking behind side panels, under seat, and under gas tank. See if wires are attached and where they go. Possible it's for switching maps on an efi programmer. But who knows? Grab some wrenches, hex keys, screw drivers, and get intimate with your new bike. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| The 2008 X was the ONLY year and model that had this feature available. I'd count yourself as one lucky owner!

| Or the ejector seat as mentioned above. I considered mounting my heated grip switch there. Decided against it since that cover needs to come off occasionally. | |

| It has obviously been added by a previous owner. My guess is for lights. Either for now missing auxiliary lighting for seeing and being seen, or for some bling ground effect lighting. Could also be to activate the radiator fan if the PO was having cooling issues. You should be able to find where the wires terminate. | |

| Love the responses to this thread. As an engineer, I will be pirating the language in that video when people bug me and I have no good answer to their question.
The mystery switch goes to. . .
exactly nothing. Not hooked up. I took the opportunity of having the fairing off to rotate the horn 180 up.
The wiring harness on this bike is worse for wear. I think the previous owner(s) had an aftermarket light kit which they had to splice in. At some point, they had returned the lights to stock, and butt-spliced (fairly crudely) the OEM stuff back in. I'm fixing it as I go.
On a side note: the bike has been some of the best cash value for a vehicle I've ever paid. Even having been owned by multiple youths, modified and most likely abused, it still does EXACTLY what I want of it, parts are cheap, and it's easy to work on. I would buy new and pay the premium if Yamaha begins selling this or a larger displacement model in the future. (Shameless plug, I know. I'm hooked.)
Has anyone shelled out for the factory service manual via Yamaha's website? It's priced just at the point that I'd pay for it rather than infringe copyright. Was it worth the money?
Again, thanks for the responses, it brightened my day after a long week. | |

| For the relatively small asking price i've just taken a "gamble" on this C/D manual as listed below.
Should arrive in a week or 2, so i'll see if it was a win or loose soon.

| I have the same exact switch on my 2011 Tahoe that I bought used on both front seats. They were put in as aftermarket seat warmers...maybe something similar with the grips?!?! | |
