Question on draining the battery Empty
PostSubject: Question on draining the battery   Question on draining the battery EmptyFri Jun 19, 2015 5:13 pm

I recently installed this: http://www.amazon.com/Xseries-Auto-Waterproof-Motorcycle-Intergration/dp/B00MGN9F0A/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 on my 08' WRR in order to be able to charge my GPS/Phone/Whatever on longer trips. I wired it straight to the battery as I thought the switch would shut off power to the device, lo and behold it only shuts power off to the USB slots leaving the cig lighter hot no matter what, scratch

So my question is if I make sure not to leave anything plugged into the cig slot while the bike is off do y'all think I still run the risk of draining the battery? If need be I guess I could cut all my neat zip tie work and run the positive wire under the headlight fuse or something else which will not receive power at all when the bike is off.

I appreciate your time,

I have two switched Powerlet sockets on my WRR. When the bike is off they are off.

I also have the standard SAE battery charging lead which I use to charge my cell phone when it is in the tank bag. This lead is hot all the time and would be like your outlet that you have installed on your bike. As long as nothing is plugged into it then it is not drawing power.

One thing I like about having the SAE connector is that when I pull into camp at night I have the option of plugging my cell phone into the connector and charging it up a little bit in the evening. Most cell phone battery charging will not make a dent into a good motorcycle battery charge. I just unplug the phone before I head to bed and life is good.

I have been running this setup for the last 2 years with no battery issues.
