WR250R in HK with insane mileage 67k km (41k miles)

Hi Guys,

I am looking for a Bike in Hong Kong. You have to know that the market for offroad bikes is VERY small here. Everything is imported from Japan. not much choices on the second hand market and prices are high. HK is basically like a country which you are not able to leave with your bike (no way to drive into China). Hk is small and I believe the max distance you would travel at once is like 30miles, then you have already crossed it from north to south or east to west.

Now I found this WR250R and the guy that's selling it has only had it for 1 year and doesnt know much about it. I couldnt believe it when I saw the 67000km. Especially in HK being so small... it has more miles than any car you would find on the second hand market.

So the question to you guys: Have you ever seen one with this high mileage? Anything I have to watch out in particular before (possibly) buying it?

Its so hard to find a good offroad bike here and this is really a great model. Condition is good as per my non-professional checkup. He wants 40k hkd for it which is like 5100USD. Its a 2008 model.

There are WRs out there with 50 to 80,000 miles on them with no problems. I would be curious about the history of the bike. How could it have that much use if you can't leave the country?

he doesnt know. there is 4 owners before thats all I can see from the papers... strange I think so too.

If that was my only option, I would consider it. From what I understand you don't have many to choose from. It should have plenty of life left in it. Knowing how well it was maintained would help. Here in the states that bike would bring about half what he is asking, but we have several to choose from too. Keep in mind it is 9 years old.

In Europe or the US the seller would never be able to get rid of that bike for that price considering age and mileage. However we have a very different market situation.

My bike has almost 44000 km on it and I have had literally 0 issues with it. Although I bought mine new and always kept up with maintenance. I think that a well maintained wr should not have any issues to get up to 80000 km and beyond. However buying a (fourth hand) almost 9 year old machine is always a gamble in my book.

Do you have an experienced rider friend who could look it over? or bring it to a shop for a check up?

As Diamond said, if you have no better option I would also consider it.

so I started to negotiate, I was already at 4800 USD ;))
And then I called the guy again and he told me that just someone came, saw it and bought it for the original price of 5100USD!!

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. Wonder what it cost to have one shipped from the states to HK? Good price on a 2010 with 8,500 miles on it in the forum classifieds.
