Rad Temp Gauge

I picked up this nifty little gadget that really works like a charm, and I can see at a glance what the bike is running at. Will come in handy in the summer when it gets hot.

OOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Me likey guages! Where did you find that baby? It looks like the whole cap get replaced. Does it have the same pressure rating as the stock cap?

FYI: Stock cap is rated 15.7 - 19.9 psi

A few questions:


1. Is it a direct replacement for the stock cap?
2. How much pressure can it hold?
3. Only come in RED?

Ok, first off, mine is rated at 16. Domestic ranges 7 lb, 13 lb, 16 lb, 20 lb, 24 lb. Import range 13 and 16 lbs. It comes in various sizes, to fit both import and domestic. Colors come in Red, Silver, Gold, Blue and Black. Wide temperature range, 30° to 270F. Calibrated in both centigrade and Fahrenheit. It has a fully functioning reclamation valve, and can be used with overflow coolant bottles. Color coded temperature ranges. Cost $25 USD. It was an award winner at SEMA. I got mine at the bike shop I go to.

So I assume you got the small import model and not the large domestic model. That was the only two choices I saw for size. How is the fit? Any leaks? i see a little coolant dribble on your rad guard screen.

Yes to both of you. The dribble is from when I took off the cap. It fits nice and tight, no leaks. The inner gradient is in ºC.

Thanks for the info Wolfie. Let us know how it works in the heat of summer. That will be the real test. I don't supose where you are that you have run it long enough for the fan to kick on?

Not yet, no. But it's quite common for the temps to reach 104º in the middle of the summer. I know with my 600 that thing kicked in LOTS.

Just ordered one from Jegs. Those bastards give you free shipping but charge you a $9.99 handling fee. Silver. 16psi. Part # 720-2473S My fan runs constantly when off road, I'll be interested in seeing how hot she runs. If it is possible to orientate the cap the way I hope (ie so it won't be upside down), you should be able to see it while riding. I can see my radiator cap while riding now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed

You can see it, but it sits sideways, not face forward. I can still read it.

Are those little screws on the top that hold the gauge on or are they rivets? Hard to tell from the pic. If they are screws you might be able to turn it 90 degrees so it isn't sideway. Just a thought.

Nevermind, I see there are only two of them so it would only turn 180 degrees anyhow and still be sideways. DOH!!!

Yeah, they are rivets. The stoppers are also set in such a fashion that it faces either one way or the other.

Does the WR not have a thermostat gauge stock?

You can read the coolant temp in DIAG mode on the meter, but not while you're riding.

Sorry to say this, but a LC bike with no temp gauge sounds kinda stupid to me... I mean, it's a critical system... and by the time the light comes on it's too late.

If and when I get my WR (still debating over bikes) I think I might look into getting this Trail Tech Vapor Comp Looks like a real nice little package.

And now the bad: it leaks like a silve





Now to try to return it or get my money back I really liked the cap, but I need my stuff to be 100% reliable, now I'm not so sure. This isn't rocket science, so maybe I just got a bad one

Update: I didn't have the cap on fully tight (you really gotta manhandle it). I am re-testing now. Standby....

You must have... Mine sure as hell doesn't do that!!!
