Others have removed the top of the airbox, but I wanted it to look OEM, So I removed the top of mine and made this from some ABS sheet plastic and some ABS glue. I do not think you could go much bigger and have it fit in, I lucked out and it all fit...just. I also made a spot for the tilt sensor and put it all back in using 3M two sided emblem tape. I can lift the rear of the bike with just my new intake "snorkle" so I know it is on there tight. I think it turned out pretty good, and if I want to I can put the OEM one back on. I think this thing is going to flow a ton of air! Here are some pics:

I am using the GYTR slip on with my PCIII USB and the Rusty map...I have a 13/47 sprocket setup and this bike just flat rips...pulls the wheels in 1st and 2nd with out even trying....very pleased with the results. I also have the G2 ergonomics throttle tamer installed and that really helps with the slow speed throttle action as well. Love this Bike!

thumb Hey, that's pretty trick!! You didn't do any drilling in the top of the airbox, did you? I didn't notice anything else other than this new piece.

Nope no drilling needed! Just popped off the tops of the melted over plastic posts holding the original airbox lid in place, cut all the plastic posts down, and made my new snorkle out of some 1/8" thick textured ABS sheet (which you can get from any plastic supply house, along with the ABS solvent glue needed to hold it all together) Took some measurements and got lucky more than anything. I have it all held down with some 3M double stick emblem tape, this stuff is strong and it should hold in place real well.

You can make one pretty easy if you prototype it out with some cardstock first...and the best part I like is it is reversable if needed.

Hi Sandman . .. have you decided which fuel-tuner (PC or FMF) to run with that boxmod?

Cheers

I like the PCIII, but with O2 sensor bikes (I think your has one?) you will have to fool the ECU that it is still there, I think anyway you go you should be ok, get what is easy and local to you for the best price.

With all the mods I have, I really should get my bike on a Dyno for a proper map for my PCIII...I am using the "rusty" map for now...seems pretty good so far.....

Looks like a good idea, thanks. I may make one out of .063 2024T3 aluminum and TIG weld it together. I rebuild small Bush planes as a hobby so have all the sheet metal tools and TIG to do it with.

I could rig one up out of carbon fiber.... Heh, just kidding >:3

Rigging one up out of aluminum would be pretty sweet.

That air box mod is the best I have seen.. Which G2 throttle tamer fits the WRR? I looked on their site and none is specifically listed for the R2 and since i live in Australia i do not want to get the wrong part!. I wonder if they make one to fit the BMW F800GS??

Cheers

Best bet is to send them an email via the "contact us" link or give them a call. I wish the web site was better, they really need to put up a link for that WR specific throttle tamer....
