Hey everyone! I have decided to buy one of these two bikes.

On my local classifieds, there are one of each. A 2008 WRR in bone-stock condition with 2800 miles I can get for $3500. The WR-X is a 2008 with 3800 miles, updated with all the mods (GYTR pipe/tuning, opened airbox, replaced turnsignals, others). It also includes a set of complete dirt wheels with tires, rotor, and sprocket. I can get this one for $4400.
I have talked to both sellers and these are the best proces they can do. Both are beautiful condition; look perfect from the pics.

I ride mainly on dirt. Moab spring and fall, gnarly singletrack in the summer, with some ADV-type rides in between with lots of flat dirt roads. I suppose I would like to use the bike to commute occasionally, but I don't want that to complicate my decision since it is a couple-of-times a month situation.

My thinking is that I would have to put a bunch of time and money into the stock bike to bring it up to speed (haha, pun) so maybe I am better off getting the X? I am trying to eval this from a value standpoint since they are essentially the same bike.

I am upgrading from a 2004 WR250F.

Get the X with both wheels, enjoy having two bikes. I much prefer the X wheel setup, particularly the bigger front brake, over the R's. The sumo wheels are going to be more comfortable and fun for long pavement trips and just fine on dirt roads. Keep aggressive knobs on the 21/18 combo for trail riding.

Also, while you'll be getting a newer lower maintenance motorcycle, the 250R/X is not really an 'upgrade' from the WR250F. The F will is far more capable and powerful off-road, but of course is stuck 'off-road only' in most states.

Thanks for the reply. I am leaning that way even though I have little interest in a street bike. It will be nice to have that option. Who knows, I may love it once I start.

Moving from the 2004 to the 2008 should be an upgrade with the lower center of gravity, EFI, etc. Plus, my 04 has seen better days. I have it plated in my state and enduro trips are one of the reasons I am moving towards the R/X. Having the WR-F pinned while on a highway for long periods of time has not been fun.

Somewhere it was scientifically proven that wrr's are way cooler than x's.
But you should still be nice to x owners, because they are a good source for parts.
Heh...I mean...who buys a dirt bike with slicks?
Good luck with that.

I'm with skierd, the X sounds like more fun to me. I plan to buy SM wheels for my R this fall.
