| They would have to come out with a 400cc or something around there with little or no weight increase, a reasonable short guy seat height & keep the MSRP under $6000. Otherwise I really like my 09 X. - motokid wrote:

A 450cc version? A 600cc version?
Major redesign? Mag wheels? Somebody offering you the "right" price? What would that be? (within reason)
Nothing. I'll never want or need another motorcycle. Not ever.
Something else?
A straight-up trade for some other motorcycle of your dreams?
How devoted are you to the little 250?

- if the technology in our r/x motors were used to make a 450, it would make pretty close to 50hp and should have service intervals not terribly different from the current r/x. so who knows, maybe someday yamaha will build one.
The WR450F with a higher allowable noise limit, an 11,000 rpm redline, and a 3000 mile valve check interval (from surfing TT) makes 38 hp stock. The WR450F has a 23.5 m/s piston speed compared to the 18.8 m/s piston speed of the X. The X is a seriously understressed engine which is why we enjoy the low maintenance intervals. The redline of a WR450X would be just 8500 rpms to get that piston speed and the 250's reliability.

| I have complete faith that Yamaha could almost double the engine size, almost double the power output, and still manage to keep the weight and maintenance intervals in check.
it just doesn't seem that fictional that something along those lines would be possible.
For the moment though....it is fictional. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

Nobody can beat that here on the austrian bike market, and because i use the WR on the streets of vienna the 31hp are more then i need to be fast in the traffic In Sweden Yamaha WRR/X has 5 year warranty witch is really a sign of high quality. Wow thats great rokka! For how long does the warranty go over in the US?

What mods have you made? You don't have a 100% stock X do you?

- 27 rear-wheel horsepower
<-- Reported in Cycle World magazine Mine is completely stock. As i wrote before you won´t do you any good if you change something on the bike over here in austria. You lose your warranty, you for sure get troubles with the police and if you crash and the insurance checks your bike you are in deep shit. You do lose your insurance and they won´t pay you a cent. Not to mention that you may lose your drivers licence and have to pay a lot of money. I did not write that i have 31HP on the rear wheel but in the papers i have officaly 31HP.

| As I've said, I doubt I'll ever ditch the little bugger as I'm much more likely to add to the fleet since I can always convert the X to an R and use it just for off road. However, if you insist on going on, it would likely take the following to make me trade it in: - approximately 50-60hp (crank is fine) - weigh in at a maximum of 290lbs wet and ready to ride (less would be preferred) - easily fit a 120 and 160 motard tires. - have readily available alternate wheel set available that can fit D606s. - maintenance intervals of no less than that of a KLR (not as long as a WRX but still easy to live with when racking up the miles) - Great big front forks with lots of adjustment and travel - rear suspension that either comes with Ohlins or at least fits an existing Ohlins shock - Brembo front brakes (I don't care what it's got for rear brakes as I still don't know how to use them) - obviously it would have to be a 6-speed, not an outdated 5-speed like a KLR or DRZ - the list price on the bike would have to be no more than $2k more than that of a WR250X
Nice-to-haves would be: - the auto start sequencing like the Ducati's and the smart car have (I keep forgetting to hold in the start button until the engine catches on the little wr) - bigger foot pegs. Why do dual sports always seem to have tiny crappy pegs?!? - a 14l tank.
Not very realistic today. Maybe someday.

| I like this thread and we can see some technical specialists here. For sure a 450cc engine based on the 250R/X would be great marty. Maybe Yamaha thinks of something like that in the future. | |

It's something that's been dreamed of by many since the 250 came out in 2008. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| I really wanted the Ktm 690, but it was 2500.00 out of my price range. So in response to your question, the 690 within 500.00 of wrx's price (witch for me was 4100.00). Marc B | |

| As far as selling my X for different bike, I would have to see something better out there. I look at what is riding on the DS runs our group does nearly every Sunday. It is full of DR-650s & new & proven KLRs, the DRz400 have a few reps. Believe it or not the BMW 650 GS single has a large following. There are even a few riders who drag out their R-GSs too. So I have not only the only Yamaha but also smallest cc or 250...wait someone showed up once w/ a neat 350 enduro 91 Yamaha...I guess that counts Have to tell you all directly now for my DS riding style none of the above hold a candle to our X. I have more questions about my X direct to me during the stops than any other 5 bikes in the group. Most of our rides are on two track back roads w/ standing water (pot holes), mud slick stretches for 40 ft & a lot of hunter truck ruts to enjoy. We have no rocks in Florida, just sand, coral & if you like swamp running then just ride the same roads after a two day rain & sand. We have a term...sugar sand. It will tire out the best of our riders. Some how the X w/ the Kenda 270s will just make life easier & waiting for all on the other side of whatever FL had to offer. If there is a short comming I'd have to say that I'm the only one to refuel twice on a 250 mile run last Sunday & the res light would be on now. Riders, I think we have a winner & a long keeper. | |

| Having owned a number of popular dual sport and supermoto bikes it would take a LOT for me to switch from the X. Here is a short list of just the street legal bikes that have passed though our garage. Does not include all the dirt bikes. 1993 Suzuki DR350 1999 Suzuki DR350 2003 Yamaha XT225 2005 Yamaha TW200 2007 DRZ400SM 2008 KLX250S 2005 Honda VFR800 2005 KTM525SMR | |

| I am seriously thinking of an XT660R I just think it would be more suitable for the roads around here, & can do just enough off-road for my needs...... I will keep the X for at least a year, though. Anybody got an XT on this forum with Distanzias & 21 inch front wheel maybe could talk me out of it??? | |
