PostSubject: Boots    Boots EmptyTue Apr 14, 2015 1:36 pm

Need boots soon.. All I have is a pair of Sidi on roads... Not unless these are good enough for some riding in the pine barrens of NJ
Was thinking of the A* Toucans or Scouts which are waterproof..... Will these be ok for dirt only duty?

My friend who raced MX back I the day just picked up a pair of A* Tech 5's... He states good bang for the buck factor with these
I'm also considering the Tech 7 Enduro ... What would you guys go for? Kinda like the waterproof ness but do I really need that for where I'll be riding?

I've got Alpinstar Tech 6 for dirt and Forma Adventure for dualsport and street. The Tech 6's have MUCH better protection and ankle support, necessary to me since I do some rock and tree hopping. The Forma's are lighter, warmer, drier, and better for walking. Plus they look better. They are fine for gravel roads and some brush, but would hate to take a big impact with them.

I have ridden the Tech 6's in 40 degree weather through miles of snow, and my feet didn't actually freeze, but they did get damp and cold.

Thanks for the insight..
glad i didn't go with the forma (cape horn) was actually a runner up

So for true off road duty.. guess the A* techs would be the wiser

I wear a pair of Dainese TR-Course Out boots for commuting and I have Alpinestars Tech 7's for fun rides. The Tech 7's offer a much more solid feel, but are still very comfy!!!

Yes, but as with other hinged boots, they are squeaky.

Funny you should ask...

I fell flat on my face in swamp water last summer (even my helmet was completely submerged) when the ground gave out from under me just as I tried to jump from one "island" to another (on foot).
Yes, my boots were soaked. I was soaked.

Other than that, I've done a few puddle crossings and the boots are not water proof, but they do an ok job of keeping the water out. It depends on how much water you're going through.
I have ridden on the street in light rain with them and my feet stayed dry.
If you're thinking about a lot of water in your future, look for some Gore-Tex boots.
