First the stock plastic guard isn't going to protect much, I got the flatland kit so the guard came along fairly cheap compared to others I've looked at. I have to wonder if they ever bolted this to a bike. It stops high for starters. Looking at it from the angle a rock could fly off the tire the lower tank n a little core are exposed. I've cracked an aluminum radiator tank and they are only a little heavier than a soda can. A rock can get kicked up through the crankcase, but they sell a guard that leaves a paper thin aluminum tank sticking out the front of the bike. I've read complaints about this and other radiator guards letting the fairing squish the radiator if you tip hard, so I'll stay away from that since it's common among more than this one. I haven't looked at the others close up but the rear mount on the flatland could tie a bunch of support in. A strip or two of aluminum welded perpendicular would add a bunch of strength. I may do it one day here soon. The hardest part is going to be shaping it so it fits the bends nice. The way it's bent I could see it folding in on the radiator fairly easily. I was unimpressed from the protection side in general. I wouldn't have kept it on without adding the strip of aluminum on bottom though. I wouldn't suggest anyone buy it unless they at least plan on adding the strip to the bottom. I really don't understand why they didn't run it down further.
