I decided to do the Harbor Freight grinding faceshield mod on my WR-R for a windscreen to take some of the wind blast off my chest.
But upon arriving at the HF store I saw they also had a model made of a close-weave screen wire that was black and would let some wind pass through and also be flexible in case my face were to ever find its way into the top of the screen. About $5 with a HF coupon.
It's this one:
Mounting was simple: Just removing the two thumbscrews that attached the screen to the flip-up headband and then using a couple of wire ties to attach the screen between the headlight mask and instrument cluster. The front brake line does rub lightly as the forks are compressed, but I don't believe it will be a problem (I do plan to keep an eye on it).
Here's a shot of the wind

And a from-the-cockpit view:
I did a 50-mile ride to test it out and found that while it does not block all the wind, it disturbs and deflects it enough to effectively eliminate the push-back on my chest at speeds above 65 mph that I was experiencing. My ride included a brief 80 mph jaunt on an interstate as well as several miles of fast two-lane blacktop at speeds of 70 mph or more (GPS speed, not speedo). The result is a noticeably more comfy ride at speed. Should be good for road trips :thumb
An added bonus I hadn't figured on is that it creates a cavelike shadow around the instrument panel and the turn indicator and other lights are much easier to see in bright sunshine. And, it won't scratch like the plexiglas ones and bugs, etc. can be hosed out from behind.
Well worth the $5 investment IMO!
Works for me
