Stock exhaust with AIS removal?

I am about to mount a new Safari tank and am wondering if removal of the AIS is appropriate to do along with the air box flapper mods while keeping the stock exhaust and EXUP. Will lack of the AIS make the bike run poorly, or be hard to start/warm up when the stock exhaust is retained? I'd like to get rid of anything "extra" while making room for my new Eastern Beaver 3-Circuit fuse box. Not much room under there in the stock situation. If this has been covered before, just point me in the right direction!

Thanks! Knew it had to be there. I think I'll do the flapper mod and leave the AIS in place until I get around to putting on an FMF exhaust system. I'll gain some space below the seat and that's the most important thing for me right now. Getting ready for the TAT this summer is taxing my spare change and as much as I would like to loose the stock exhaust weight, it will have to go with me on this one.
