Brake service Empty
PostSubject: Brake service   Brake service EmptyFri Mar 25, 2011 6:21 am

My X manual states that the brakes need refurbishing after 2 years, involving new seals, taking apart all internal components etc. Is this strictly necessary? How long would a stealer dealer take to do this?? how much £££/$$$? Anyone have experience with this?? dunno
Thanks.

generally no, they will last a lot longer with regular maintenance. Change the brake fluid at least once per season, and when you change the brake pads, "floss" the pistons with shoelaces before pushing them back into the bores to clean out any crud on them. Grease the slider pin once a season as well. No idea how much the dealer would charge, but new seals and rebuilding a caliper yourself is dead easy and costs less than $50.
