| I'm wondering if the stock gearing on the WRX is right for me. I ride 90% street/canyons and 10% freeway. I don't love the look of the rear sprocket, so at the very least I want to swap that out for a better looking/lighter one. | |

| Personally, I feel the stock gearing is way too tall. The stock sprockets are 13/42, and I'm using 13/49. Much better acceleration and gear spacing, top speed is 80mph, and I cruise easily at 65mph.
You'll probably want to experiment with gearing, yourself, and come to your own conclusion. :) | |

| Stock gearing sucks. Make the change. Go higher in rear. You'll sacrifice some top speed but so what. You'll also need to get a speedometer corrector of some sort. You won't regret it. _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| If you go with a 45 in the rear you can still use the stock chain. The nice thing about gearing it this way is that you've got more use of 6th gear, and when you do go off-road, you can take advantage of not being to tall and tackle some twisty trails easily. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

| +1 on a 45 rear. I used a jt245. I also went up to a 110 link chain for a better fit. Never tried it with a 108 but I would think it would be probematic, but Shewolf knows more then me. Well on some things anyway. | |

| So? It's a dirt bike with street tires. A supermoto. They're designed with the purpose of leaving the pavement. Plus - it's a phucking blast!!!!!!!!!! _________________ 2008 WR250X Gearing: 13t - 48t Power Commander 5 / PC-V Airbox Door Removed - Flapper glued - AIS removed FmF Q4 Bridgestone Battlax BT-003rs

| Personal choice dude.
Do you want to buy a new chain?
If not you're limited to a few choices.
If you decide to buy new chain the choices are much more plentiful.
It's really up to you.
Go down one tooth in front and see what you think. No new chain needed. Pretty much like adding three teeth to rear.
You're going to phuck up your speedometer when you change gearing though....so be forewarned.

| I run 13 - 47 on my X wheels as well as my R wheels. For me it's the best all around compromise but you'll need a 112 link chain. Listen to motokid and just get a 12 for the front and see if you like it. Oh, and not wanting to get your sumo dirty because it's black sounds a little to squidly to me. Get the damn thing dirty! | |

| I know it's a personal thing, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. No problem buying a new chain if need be. I've done one tooth lower on most bikes I've owned, and I liked it. So 12T it is! So I sound squidly to you?! See enclosed pic from a fishing trip I was on last year. THAT"S SQUIDLY! I'm just a little particular! | |

| I went down one tooth first. I liked it. I wanted more.
So a new chain, back to 13t on front and 48t on rear.
I love it.
But, as I said....you sacrifice top speed, and the farther from stock gearing you go the more fubar'd your speedo gets.
I don't give as shit about top speed. That's not what I bought this bike for. I sold an R1 to get the X.

| +10 I don't miss my 600. This little thing still can rip it up pretty good. I had the JT12T on the front of mine and left the 43 out back until the whole works wore out. _________________ A wolf's voice echoed down the mountain 'Share the bounty of the hunt with your brothers and sisters, and forever be strong and free.' | |

I'm about 20-25 minutes from it. I'm 10 miles from the DMB. I was looking at some of your older pics. Did I see Banning's 625 in one of them? - Fishinado wrote:
