Yes...I've been on a few Banning rides. I can't keep up with him though.

I usually run sweeper....I bring up the rear....... Shog

If you got spots to get dirty, I might have to cross the river and find you soon.

HA! HA! I love this place!!!

Agree on the speed thing, but I do want to be able to cruise at 75. Is that still doable at 13-48?

What other mods do you have?

Pipe? Programmer? Airbox & AIS removal?

Define "cruise".

I would never want to jump on I-95 and head south to Florida on my X.

I can accelerate up to 75mph then jam on the brakes for the next corner.

and yes....this place is awesome.

I used to ride with him all the time when I had my VFR. I couldn't keep up with him in the tight stuff either. I only know of one person that can keep up with him on a non motard. I'll be doing a couple of track days with him at Summit point this summer. His 625 is gone. So it should be fun trying to keep up with his tagged 525. Rolling Eyes

The only dirt around me is up in the PB's. Which requires knobbies for all the sand. I should come down and ride the canal since it's been a long time since I've been there.

Powercore 4, programmer, flapper removed, K&N, AIS.

Cruise, as in ~10-20 miles at 75mph on the freeway.

90+ % will be street and canyons where a little more off the line would be nice.

Last time I rode around the canal I was "properly introduced to some very nice military gentlemen" who made it very clear where I was allowed, and not allowed to ride down there.

I've decided to give it a break for a few weeks.

I can't hit 90 with 13/48.

Low 80's is best I've seen, but that's not on an extended slab of endless multi-lane.

edit: sorry - that's CAN'T hit 90mph

DUDE, I'm in LA! Typical Sunday ride is 100 miles. So 75mph on 13-48 pretty OK?

I work in West Chester and It was on my way home down 322 to 95N to the Commodore Barry. (Part of my commute home) Plus Ive done it a 'few' times heading up 295N....on knobbies. wink That's scary. Actually, that was more like 85.

Not to self - stay away from the canal. Do you ever ride 82 around Chadds Ford?

I've gone 75mph for maybe 5 miles on an interstate.

There's not much left after that, but I really REALLY try to avoid that kind of riding at all costs.

I like roads where I can find these....

So net net how much speed do yo loose on top going 13-48 is the bottom line?

Nice pic! A shack like that wouldn't do so good in an earthquake!

12/43 I got 90+, GPS verified. I ride highways and where a lot of ppl run 70 I can pass them and still have throttle to spare....and that was 2-up! deal

It's a covered bridge over a creek....

How much top speed lost?

Depends on who you believe.

Some people with stock gearing are saying they can top out between 90 and 100 mph.

So based on what others say you might lose from 10 to 20 mph by going up 6 teeth on rear and getting a new chain.

Now the stock speedometer is 7.7% off, and my top speed numbers are corrected, but not GPS verified.

I feel conservatively safe in thinking you might lose 10-15 mph off top speed with a 13/48 combo.

Anybody else care to chime in here? Does that sound close to an educated guess?

Like I've said...I don't do top speed.

I've got other bikes to go faster on, but I'd like to be able to ride on the freeway if I need to. 10-15 mph loss is a bit too mucho. So what's plan B? 12T front?

Stock is 13-42. If you go 12-42 it's close to 13-45. For $20 go with the 12t. You'll be happy.

This post got my attention since I just slapped a 47 on the back of my '09 X (13 front).

I am running Shinko 244 knobbies which are probably 2" taller than the stock tires ...effect is like taller gearing.

Anyway, I was curious what my usable top speed might be. So, I hit the highway with my GPS mounted and the bike easily pulled to 80 mph. It was slow to move up from there. I hit 81 before traffic got in the way.

I suspect 85 was doable with a longer stretch of open road, with me in a deeper tuck.

Oh, no performance mods on the bike. If boredom sets in, I'll start tweaking.

For onroad / offroad performance, I think 13/47 is a pretty good compromise. Looking forward to some adventures in the dirt.

I agree. I run 13x46 on the road with distanzias and it feels just right. If I rode alot of dirt with 244's I go to a 47.

I still have the stock gearing also and I would like more bottom end. No freeway riding just cornering and willing to sacrifice top end. AIS removed, flapper glued, FMF powercore pipe and FMF powerbomb head pipe, Yamalink , dropped 10mm in the front, still looking at EFI controllers. I would like to actually use 1st and 2nd gear to its potential. I have another bike to do all the top end. thanks for any suggestions. usa

If you do a lot of highway I'd stick to 45 in the back. I'm running a 46 and the vibration cruising at 70+ mph is not pleasant.

I personally avoid highways as much as possible and stick to surface/back roads so my gearing works great for my typical average speed of 55-60mph. I still top out around 90mph, it's just unpleasant on the hands and feet.

13-48 would be good. I found it really cuts mince meat out of quick twisties and city streets! I do highway on it, but after 15 mins its less than fun, which is why I bought a 14 front if I have to steadily do 30 miles of highway like next week. If people want comfort then in my opinion they bought the wrong bike.
