OK didn't take it all the way to an R but I am hoping that it meets a happy balance for a 70/30 Street/Dirt setup.   Went with Warp 9 wheels.  Setup is a 2.15 x 19" Front Rim and a 3.00 x 17" Rear Rim.  Running Metzeler Karoo 3 Tires.  110/80-19 front and a 140/80-17 rear.  I wanted a setup "somewhat" similar to the stock rubber.  (ie...using a 110 and a 140 Radial tires)  So far have not noticed any noise from the Karoo's on the pavement and played a bit in the dirt today and am happy with the dirt worthiness.  I will be selling my stock OEM WR250X wheels with brand new (less then 400 miles) Pirelli Diablo Rosso Tires in the classified section.

Hi,

The rear rack was a ebay purchase. Seemed kind of expensive (around 140) but it was what I was looking for.  I don't recall the seller but it was a billet rack pre-drilled for the RotoPax mount.  Scratches easy but seems very well made and has the Yamaha logo etched into it.  Mounts with four bolts into the sub frame.   The side racks are by Wolfman which I understand (think) is no longer selling. Note: on the rear rack, I think it is from JNS-WRX that sells them on here and ADV Rider .com

Just to be clear, I am very happy with the rear rack, especially knowing they are from a WR member! The scratching I mentioned is not a fault of the rack but due to all the crap I throw on it. I would definitely recommend the rack!

Great looking bike!!!

How does your bike ride with the 19 inch front wheel compared to the 17 inch wheel???
What fairing are you running?

Thanks

Hey SLOWRIDER,

The Windscreen is a Cee Bailey Windscreen designed for the WR250.  It is just so-so.  Fit and finish are great but it just does not provide much wind protection.  I have only run down the freeway and highways for about 80 miles with the new 19" setup.  After I installed the wheels and tires, I didn't change anything on the suspension and geometry side because I suck at getting it right.  I took it to a guy that has done a lot of great work for me and just started at a new shop called SIKMOTO in San Luis Obispo Ca.  With just the wheels and tires added, the bike was a bit squirrely and didn't feel right.  He spent about an hour on it and dialed it in and going down the freeway with the new 19" setup, it was solid at 70 mph and felt good.  Off Road felt better since I had the sag all wrong before.  I have a Yamalink lowering link and the fork tubes are up about 5/8" inch up in the tree.  However, once he got done with setting up the bike, it sits about at around 35 3/4" which is a lot taller then I had it before.  Feels right though.

Hello 250rider,

I having been thinking of going to a 19inch front wheel myself.
I have a R that I bought all the parts to convert to a X off this site.
I dont really like the way it handles with the 17 inch front wheel.

Why did you not just have a new rim laced to the front hub and keep the stock 17 inch rear wheel???
I do see that you went with a narrower rear rim size.

I am trying to figure out the best way to get a set of adventure wheels.

Thanks

Technically you are right, it would have made more sense going that route.  My original plan was to be able to swap back and forth depending on street riding or dirt.  I ordered the rear rim in a 3.50 vs. the stock 4.00 only because one rim would have a dirt tire and one a street.  However, knowing how lazy I am, I figure now that I will be happy with the 19/17 setup with dual sport tire for all my riding and will not be changing back and forth between street and dirt.  Most of my riding is pavement but I like to do some local trails on the weekends and a couple long trips during the year that are typical dual sport rides.  (something like 800 miles street and 200 miles dirt)  I love throwing the X into the canyon twisties with the Pirelli Diablo Rosso's but my days of going fast are over, (fast as in on a 250cc LOL) I just enjoy the ride and the scenery more these days and that is why I am happy with the dual sport tire setup.

Hello 250riders

I appreciate the explantion.

I also want to have mild dual sport tires on my 19/17 wheel set. I am keeping the 21/18 set up for off-roading

Do you think there will be a problem going with the wider rear wheel size 4.00 using dual sport tires instead of the narrow one you went with???

thanks

Hi Slowrider,

I think a stock 4.00" x 17" with a Dual Sport tire will be great. Plenty of great tire choices. I didn't really need to go down to a 3.5" rear but just happened to be my choice. Originally I thought I would be putting a 130/80-17 on the 3.5" rim but the Karoo had the 140 radial so I went with that. I tend to go overboard when figuring out what rim size to go with what tire. Probably overkill. Post up some pictures with your setup once you get it.

Have played with front wheels for a while. I have right now an 18 on the front. It is a BMW f650 wheel and disc. I use the wr250x front caliper to run the disc. The wheel spacers are a little different since the wheel width is different. I also have a 19 inch BMW wheel. So I have lots of choices. The lower the better for me. I also have an 08 wr250x that I will be selling. It has been converted (wheel wise) to an R. It is stock except handguards with turn signals in them and small ones in the back. Contact me if interested.

Hello,
Did you ever sell you X wheels? I would be interested.

How do you like the 19 front wheel? How does it handle on the street compared to the 17inch?

Thank you,
Ken

thumb The 19/17 combo looks great. I have been planning on doing the same and wondered how it would turn out. I am building upon a spare set of WRR hubs and will run the slightly narrower 100/90-19 & 130/80-17 tires on 19x2.15 & 17x3.00 rim combo.

Like you, I was torn between a full supermoto setup considering the appeal of turning down dirt roads from time to time. I'll be keeping the 21/18s with full knobbys for serious trail riding.

I forgot to ask but how is the kickstand length with these wheels? I have an extra WRR kickstand I was planning on shortening but may just trade with someone for a WRX kickstand if it works fine.
Thanks

Hey 250riders, see you are on line, wish I was computer savy, can't show pictures. The 18 inch seems to work for me tho asI run it most of the time on the street when not riding the Honda Grom or the 1050 Tiger Triumph. Plan to run the X 17 inch wheel with a dirt tire on the trail ride this fall. I use the X caliper and either wheel works with a std. BMW disc 0n the BMW wheel. The wheel is off BMW F650, 18inch off an early f650 and the 19 inch off a later f650. One could get the 21inch also. Berwyn

Hello Berwyn,

Is it possible you can E-mail some pictures of your wheel swap?

kq@verizon.net

Did you have to make spacers? How does it ride?

Thank you,
Ken
