| I replaced my fuel pump about 2-3 years ago on my '11 WR250R, after the original died after a long day of riding. I thought by getting a new one (back in 2015?), my problems would be solved. Unfortunately, it died again today...6 miles into a trail. Luckily it was a jeep trail, and I could get my dainty F350 Crew Cab Long Bed down the trail to retrieve my bike. Of course by the time I got home, it had cooled down enough to start up.
So, the long and short of it, is there a new/different/better/alternative brand that I can install so I will never ever be stranded again?
TIA, Paul in SoCal | |

TIA, Paul in SoCal When you replaced it in 2015(?) did you replace the whole assembly or did you buy just the fuel pump on eBay and fit it into the existing assembly?

| Are there long-term reports on the eBay fuel pump replacement? Has anyone fit another Manufacturer/Brand fuel pump external to the tank? | |

Is the bike sitting for long periods of time with gas in the tank? Not sure where you are located but in the States the ethanol they put in the gas can really mess stuff up if it sits for awhile without some sort of fuel stabilizer in it. Lately I usually ride mine about once every 2 to 3 weeks.

| My WR usually won't sit for more than 2-3 weeks also without a ride, even if its just around town on an errand. CA fuel shouldn't have more than 10% EtOH, it usually isn't a problem. I bought a fuel pump off eBay a couple of years ago, probably the same time i bought the whole OEM assembly. I just need to find the old assembly and the pump in my garage somewhere.
If I buy a new OEM assembly, can I specify the fuel pump from a '17 dual sport or supermoto in hopes of getting the latest unit? Or are they the same part for all the years? Maybe I'll look at a WR450 fuel pump.

I have more than 5,000 miles on mine without any problems, and have ridden it in 104F (40C) degree weather.

| I found my old fuel pump assembly and the extra fuel pump still in the original bag. Any tips on getting the assembly apart? Those tabs are really tight and difficult to move.

Paul Johnkol has a nice write up on how to do this in one of the stickies on the Forum: https://wr250rforum.forumotion.com/t1045p300-fuel-pump-problem

| Thank you for pointing me to that post. I replaced the fuel pump in the assembly, hopefully I'll get to install it in the tank this weekend. I will buy another pump off eBay and keep the other assembly as a spare.

| Apparently some Yamaha outboards have the same sized fuel pump elements as our bikes. I'm told that once you fit one of those, your problems are over. I imagine an outboard shitting itself miles out to sea would be bad, so it stands to reason, really.
Why they don't fit our bikes with the damn things is beyond me. Annoying.
