Those look good. I bet you can get a 150 in there. Keep us posted with your likes and dislikes on this tire.

I see no reason to go with a 150 if you can get the tire of your choice in a 140.

For one thing a 140 will be lighter in weight.
Choice.

Smallest S20 rear is 150/60/17

Not many choices for 140/7017

I'm putting my 110/70/17 S20 front on next week. My current BT023 150/70/17 rear will last through an upcoming 1,700 km long weekend, then I'll install the 150/60/17 S20 rear too.

For the rear, 150/60. WR250 does not make enough power to need any wider, and the chain might rub against a 160.

I've no opinion on the front, but is there enough space for a 120?

Is there enough space to go up to 120?

According to this, a 120 is 9 or 10 mm wider depending on which aspect ratio you choose (/60 vs /70):
http://www.bridgestone.com/products/motorcycle_tires/products/battlax/s20.html

And note compared to the stock 110/70/17, the 120/60/17 is about 9 mm shorter, and the 120/70/17 is about 10 mm taller ('about' because depends on rim width too.)

120 will be ok. Many people here go with it.

We havent S20 or BT-003 RS here in Russia. I only found PIRELLI DIABLO ROSSO II.

HI all, new owner of a used wr250x. Can anyone advise if these would fit and ride OK on both ends of the bike? Still need to figure what those extra letters are on the end of the model numbers....

thanks!

Just purchased new tires for my X, got around 5,500 miles on the factory rear, front looking worn too. Mounted some Kenda K671 Cruiser tires in factory sizes. I'll report back in a week on how they ride, so far with a few miles I do like!

Purchased from Dennis Kirk

I recently mounted a set of Contiforce SM 150/70 rear and 120/70 front. I mounted these myself - easy, no issues. In fact easier than dirt bike tires. Balancing was a piece of cake. Warm up time is immediate. Within 15 minutes rolling through the neighborhood I had the tire scuffed up to the edges. Today I rode out to the forest and did some single track (greens and blues) the tires were amazing off road. Better than knobbies on some stuff (like rocks and bermed turns).

Depending on how these wear, so far this is a superb tire that allows the bike to be a true dual sport.

And anyone who only keeps their WR on pavement is missing some amazing fun.

Does anyone know of a sand paddle tire that fits? or a very aggressive sand tire?

I am going to the Oregon dunes next year and will be hill climbing - I don't want to have to buy a set of R wheels just for the dunes. dunno

I am looking for new tires and noticed the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II comes in 140 and 110 sizes to match the stock WRx tire size. Does anyone have any experience with these? I ran Diablo Rosso on my SV650 and really liked them.

EDIT: I just got a set of Bridgestone BT-016 on Motorcycle Superstore for $201 shipped. I got a 110/70 and 150/60. The Pirellis would cost another $25 for stock sizes. I read good things about the BT-016, so we will see how they fit and handle.

I am planning to go with Distanzia's in the 120/70 and 150/60 sizes. My question is, have any of you changed gearing at all to compensate when putting on these tires? I'm assuming that they will probably be heavier than stock and of course they are wider. Since it's just a 250, that made me wonder if I should go up a tooth or maybe two on the rear sprocket.

Going to a 150/60 rear already effectively adds 2-3 teeth on the rear sprocket, so swap them on and try it out first before regearing. They can't be heavier than the 150/70 Heidenau K76 I'm running now and I don't really notice the weight personally.

I think the 140/70 vs. 150/60 is more like a 1 tooth difference. You can put the numbers in gearingcommander.com and check. 120/70 up front feels way different than stock size. I didn't move the forks up though. That would probably help.

If you're running stock Yamaha gearing, regardless of tire choice, I'd recommend without question changing your gearing up at least a tooth, or teeth. Very happy

Stock gearing sucks. Unless you're all about long runs on boring interstates and/or gas mileage.

Just be aware that any gearing change completely FUBARS your speedometer and means you should also look into a speedo corrector.

Hi all. Proud new owner of used 2008 WRX (and former lurker) here. I need to replace the current front tire (BT090), but not 100% sure what to do because the rear has the Kenda pictured below on it. I already have a set of R wheels/tires, so I don't need any off-road capabilities with my X tires, but I don't really want to replace both tires yet if I don't necessarily need to.. I guess what I'm asking is *should* I put a similar tire to the rear on the front or does it really matter? Thanks!

This bike came with these tires. Same on the front and rear.

Didn't get to ride on them for long. About 80 miles in, my chain snapped. Can I run the twisties with these tires on?

Just in case you aren't kidding, NO you probably should not be running twisties with those knobbies.
There are plenty of suggestions on this thread for good tires for the X, whether full street or dual sporting tires that are still capable of going in the twisties - it all depends on where you are going to use your bike the most.

Chain snapping sounds pretty dangerous, I hope you and the bike are OK.

I would highly recommend a certified, motorcycle safety riding and training course for you.

Cycle Gear has BATTLAX BT003 RS RACING MOTORCYCLE TIRES on sale for $226.32 for a set.

110/70/17 front 140/70/17 rear

Can anybody think of a reason NOT to snap these up?

Seems like a damn fine deal.

The BT003R's are wiked in the twisties.. I've even take mine into some pretty good off-roading and they performed pretty well considering it's a street bike racing tire..

But I think for my next set, I may go with Distanzia's.. For the type of hooligan riding I'm doing anyway..

Those with Distanzia's, how do you like them?

Grab 'em, the BT003's are so far my favorite sticky tire for the WR! Grip like crazy, last pretty well too.

They are a great tire. If I had more off-road stuff accessible I wouldn't think twice about getting another set. I just spend so much more time on the paved surfaces that I'd rather go back to stock sizes for weight, and sticky tires for the twisty stuff.
