Hello all! Well I don't have a WRR....yet! But am hoping to remedy that soon and joined this forum to continue to do research on this bike. I would be looking to use it mostly offroad, but do need that street legal aspect.

Currently I have a DR650 and '85 yamaha XT350. I've used the DR offroad the last 5 years and have finally come to the conclusion that she is just too big and despite my efforts to slim her down and make her more off-road worthy, there is only so much I can do.

I picked up the old XT not running last year, got her working, but she is just too far gone for my mechanical skills to make her a reliable bike. She's lived a rough life and between the trashed suspension, kick start, and bad brakes, its too much for me. I like the weight of it compared to my DR.

So both bikes are on craigslist, and I'm searching for a WRR. Not much luck so far, been to 6 Yamaha dealers so far and no one has one. A few have offered to order one for me, but I am not going to buy a bike without seeing it first.

Welcome to the forum!

The year I bought my bike it was discontinued in italy and no dealer around me had one left. The nearest one to have one left was 150km south. Did buy it in the end though, so the longer trip was worth it.

Maybe you can find a forum member that is nearby to where you live? maybe he could let you see it and even test ride it, so you can order a brand spanking new one from the dealer wink

Welcome mow-ree,
I just got my wr250 r and I like it a lot .
I wanted a bike I could use on the road too so went with the wr.
I'm a newbie to off roading so the wr is a perfect bike for me.
I bought mine without a test ride which I wouldnt normally do but with all
the information on the web it was a pretty easy decision.
Hope you find what you are looking for .

Big thanks to cjlavesser for letting me try out his WRR last week. Definitely solidified my decision to get a WRR. Sold my other 2 dual sports this weekend, so just a matter of finding the right WRR now.

Sweet! I'm glad I could help.

Will you have a steed in time for the Bucky 8?

Worst case scenario I'll take my brother's Honda CRF230l to Bucky. I have buy him a new rear tire though if I do that.

I'm hoping to get a deal done this week on a WRR. I've been talking to a couple guys selling theres, finally have the cash to make it happen.

Found my WRR finally last week. A 2013, pretty well set up for offroad, just what I was looking for!

Well, I've got some seat time in on my WRR over the last few weeks including a 100 mile dual sport ride in where I really got to know her well in the offroad sections. Overall I've got 400 miles on her most of the rest of which is road.

Highlights of how mine is set up now: FMF Q4, Powerbomb, and programmer. Gearing is 13, 47. Also cycra handguards and a skid plate for protection. Overall I thought it did great in the woods especially compared to my old DR650. I was a little worried coming from the DR's excessive torque and low seat height that the WRR would be a rough learning curve but not at all.

Couple things to deal with: The suspension. I haven't touched it, but it was set up for a lighter person than I. Should just be some simple adjustments I think. The speedometer is way off. I mostly ride offroad, but still kind of annoying. Looks like a fairly simple fix.

And the part I'm not sure on yet: Gearing. I am thinking of going 13, 50. I had my DR geared way down and I liked riding mostly 2nd offroad and using 1st just for the really gnarly stuff. The highway riding I've done so far is not typical of how I intend to use this bike. I have a yamaha cruiser for that. I just don't have my truck yet for hauling this thing. So I'm not worried at all about losing top speed. Reading some posts in the gearing section 50 sounds like it almost might be too low. But I felt on the dual sport ride that I was mostly too fast for 1st and too slow for 2nd.
